Characters are "too perfect"

Same like they’re meant to be people for us to look up to and see ourselves in sometimes. And also, just bc they look perfect doesn’t mean they are. Lots of people love Sarah (and I do too) bc sure they may not find a physical representation of themselves but waaaay more people look for mental representations that they find in her books. The way she writes grief and trauma and pain makes the characters so less than perfect. And if they were ‘perfect’ the book series wouldn’t exist bc they’d solve the issue in an instant.

Yes ok so physically she writes characters that are beautiful, but tbh that is the case in a lot of fantasy books. But as you say El, mentally the characters have struggles like Feyre and her sisters with PTSD and there are some with survivors guilt as well. They have lots of imperfections, which make them the perfect characters.

i totally agree.

On the outside they are beautiful. But like you say almost every book charracter looks beautiful and if they look beautiful people are saying that they are too perfect and when charracters describe themselves as ugly people sya they are whiny and need to be confident so no matter which case people stay stuff about it and it isnt good.

Also sarah does make her charracters real on the mental side. All of her charracters struggel with things in all the series she has. And mental health definitly isnt perfect and it is raw and just life.

i sometimes also feel like whatever way a charracter it is written it is wrong. If a charracter is to confident then it isnt realistic and it is arrogant but if they think less of how they look and are insecure about their looks then they are whiny and not strong and not badass.

I don't think the characters are "too perfect". SJM actually takes us through everything the characters go through. We read their struggles and we see how they grow through it and become stronger.

I think the characters are amazing and I wouldn’t call them perfect. They definitely have there flaws and that is what makes them amazing and relatable!

I think that SJM is great at writing characters with realistic flaws: even her main heroines and love interests have traits that aren't ideal. Every character survives trauma in some way, something that isn't ever glossed over. The fact that it never truly leaves them shows the depth of their character development, making each individual far from perfect. I will admit that they do obtain an unrealistically high beauty standard, but like you guys have said, that's common in every High Fantasy novel with romance.

None of the characters are perfect. all of them are still dealing with the traumas of their past and its not as if it doesnt effect them. we clearly see in the book that all of them struggle at some point yet they never let it get the best of them.
