This was all very sad. He was actually making an effort to re-enter society when he was falsely accused. It destroyed his life, and yes, his death was tragic. I don't blame the rookie though as Voss was violent and had a weapon.
This was awful. Voss had worked to get himself together after getting back from the war. It sounded like a student lied about him and another student's relationship, which made him spiral out of control. It was tragic.
What happened to Dean Voss was horribly tragic. He was suffering but winning when he was obviously falsely accused. His death was sadly predictable.
It just seems like the teen that lied should be taken to task in some way, if for no other reason than to learn a lesson about spreading vicious and malicious rumors.

I felt sad for Voss. He finally got his life back then someone lied about him. I wonder what caused the teen's anger. I didn't want him to die, but I knew as soon as that rookie came in shaking, he was going to shoot to kill.
