NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11108 comments This is the second or third time I read this book and it's just as good as ever (though for some reason I still hold more affection for Prisoner of Azkaban). The ending is still very powerful, and it marks a major tonal shift in the series, and perhaps the end of childhood for many of the characters - and some readers. My son was one of the millions of readers who grew up along with Harry Potter. I noticed several differences between the book and movie this time, especially relating to Ron, Hagrid, and how Harry got the clues for each challenge in the competition. Also, in the film, I think all the students from Beauxbatons were girls, whereas in the book there are boys and girls.

Mary B | 131 comments I know why I have more affection for the Prisoner of Azkaban. It's the happiest book of the series and it's not close. I recognize that GoF is great BUT it's a mystery novel which fundamentally isn't my thing and it also marks it as not as great on the reread.

Amy | 12953 comments I also have particular fondness for number three.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11108 comments Mary that makes sense. Azkaban builds relationships and Harry's confidence, while Goblet has more teenage conflict and angst (which can be depressing).

Amy did you like Seabiscuit too? I think they show some similar motivational psychology concepts.

Amy | 12953 comments Sea biscuit was meh for me - although many loved it. There was so much I loved about prisoner. Including the mirror of the three relationships of the past with the the very strong current triple friendship. I loved the marauders map. Oh and my favorite character has always been lupin. So this one hit the marks for me in bringing Harry closer to his parents, and the patronus thing was great - Harry coming into his own power. Plus we get to see how smart Hermione really is!
