Kenneth | 26 comments In the aftermath of George Floyd's death, you may have heard about this topic circulating on the internet. To put it simply, most people have very homogenous bookshelves with few titles by authors of colour. I'm not afraid to admit my bookshelf has the same problem.

So I, like many others, have decided to expand my reading horizons and include more writers of colour, and it's easier to do that you might realise.

Right now, my shelves are full, so it will take a while for these new titles to show up, but they will. I will not break that promise.

All I had to do to find new authors was a series of searches online. For most, I used O Magazine, which has two great lists of books featuring many writers of colour:

I also found this amazing list by Marie Claire, showcasing Latinx writers:

This is just the beginning. A reader's journey never ends. But by diversifying your bookshelf, that journey will become more fulfilling.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments I am very excited as we are working with our local indigenous community - the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to ‘decolonize our collection’. We are employing an indigenous consultant to assist us with the assessment of resources that relate to indigenous history, culture and thinking. We are using the protocols from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library, Information and Resource Network.
