Hi everyone,

I hope you have a chance to start reading our Fall selection "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The story is full of interesting and exciting characters. It also has a significant setting that brings the story the together and gives us some clues to the human conflicts and theme of this tale.

If you have started reading this story, what are your thoughts so far? Do you think a setting is important in creating the mood of a story? Do you have any favorite books that had the perfect setting?

Colton CW (neuroticcat) | 71 comments Hey Donna. Thanks for the topic! I had to request it from my local library and it's being sent from one of their other branches so I haven't started reading just yet. I definitely prefer the physical copy as opposed to reading online, so wanted to get it from my library. But I will definitely think about the setting as I start to read and let you know! -Colton

Hi Colton,

I can re-read this story over and over. It is one of my Fall favorites. I was excited to read any of the suggested Fall selections. I think you will enjoy it I can't wait to hear what you think of it. Beware of that Headless Horseman....he's spooky.

Joshua | 23 comments I have my Borders copy and have begun rereading. Irving comes out of the gate illustrating this idyllic and abundant country setting with people who are prone to superstition and open to suggestion where the supernatural is concerned. It's perfect in every particular for what comes next.

Hi Josh,

I'm glad you have a copy. I don't mind re-reading this story. The best time to read stories like Sleepy Hollow, Dracula, Frankenstein etc. is in October. Definitely the right time to read these great stories.

Superstition and the supernatural, setting, people, I agree, we are not surprised on what is likely to happen. Can't wait to hear your thoughts as you read.
