Grace Brouse This chapter shares information with readers about aspects of informational writing methods and more. In informational pieces writers, should be sharing information about the topic, that should leave readers as insiders once they are finished reading the article. One point that the textbook makes is the importance of effective organization. The writer should create a flow within the paper, that presents commonly known facts about the topic, then present new or more specific information that the readers might not know. In this article this can also be the opportunity for writers to present their voice or opinion on the topic. However, while writers can add voice to their piece, it is important to make sure their voice is based on facts, rather than creating a bias piece of writing. In the text it provides a useful piece of paper that is an informational writing guide for teachers. On this guide it shows all six traits on a score sheet that can help guide teachers in the right direction. I found this very helpful because it will help myself and other teachers adapt their lesson plans for informational pieces to include all aspects of this writing guide. This guide will also help teachers grade students’ pieces based on the information that they shared with students. At the end of the chapter the textbook provides information pieces of writing that teachers, parents and students can use!
