Jae | 1 comments Hello! I feel like i've asked this question here before some years ago, but I could not find any reference to it here.

The book series i'm looking for was a fantasy series, published sometime before 2000-2005 (as I read it in my teens), which involved the main antagonist wearing a suit of black armor that allowed him to shift into the shadows and control death to a limited extent - including keeping a woman in a state of undeath.

There were other armor sets out there, I believe - one that controlled life or nature, I think it was green.

Other characters were a thief or grave robber who we see in the first chapter entering a mausoleum out in the wilderness, only to almost get killed by the traps within - I think he was looking for one of these suits of armor.

Another character was a dwarf born with malformed legs who ended up being a scholar, travelling between cities to their libraries to study.

Early on we see a scene of two young boys running amok in their father's castle, then eavesdropping on the main antagonist (possibly before he has his armor) and it's clear there's something shady going on.

Yet further we see a monastery high in the mountains where monks' bodies are kept preserved because they tattoo the stories of the world on their skin.

There's also a council of people that are actually dragons, I think? We see one of them turn into a dragon before one of the protagonists.

The character being kept alive by the black armor (I think she may be elven, or at least royalty of some kind) is always wearing armor, and smells of death, but is still able to think fully and despises being kept alive this way, but is also bound to serve the wearer of the armor.

I think there were 3 books total, though it May have been 5 (unlikely but possible); one of the covers had the antagonist in black armor standing on some rocky promontory, possibly with people in armor behind him, overlooking some valley or creekbed?

If I remember anything else i'll add it to this thread. Again, my humblest apologies if this was already here, but I couldn't find it with the search parameters I used. Thank you!

Jae, no worries, this is your only post in the group.

Is this book for adults or teens?

(You can find your old posts by going to our group homepage and clicking "My Group Topics (or Comments)" in the right hand column. This doesn't work on the mobile app.)
