Can We Submit Better Book Covers?

Is it allowed to submit a better scan of a book cover?

For example, "The Ellery Queen Omnibus" has a nice white background, where the book was apparently photographed. But I've scanned the cover without the backdrop.

So is it allowed to replace an existing book cover with a better photo or scan of it, assuming that it's obviously the same book cover, and that it didn't come from a forbidden source?

I have a small handful of books this question applies to.
