In my personal experience, it is hard to find and follow my "ikigai", because there is always someone commenting and influencing my purpose of life. And nowadays, it seems very hard to see which good friend that bring me to positivity. How about you Nabila?

Yes, Elin. We have to always be thankful. Whether the things we have is good or not, we must thank God for everything, because God gives us things and let it happen for a reason, right? :D

message 12: by Syarifah (new)

Syarifah Nur Alfan wrote: "So guys, have u ever done or probably doing an activity related to Ikigai?"

Absolutely, I have. The book mentioned several tips to make our life more valuable, like exercise, take things slow, always be thankful, etc. I have implemented most of them in my life, like always be thankful for everything i've been through and done, doing exercise regularly to keeping up both my physical and mental health, and always enjoy when do something, because I believe that we do things with rush it will only make things worse, whereas, when we enjoy doing something it will make a good result.

message 15: by Alfan (new)

Alfan Fahru That was a really good point, guys. Yes, I do occasionally gardening in my spare time. This kind of activity makes me feel relaxed. But then sometimes, I feel bored doing gardening, its because lack of enjoyment there. I think the hardest time is when we constantly doing that routine over and over again, right?. We should do that activity even though we are very low on motivation. Often I have to ignore that feeling and start gardening. How about you guys? how you guys dealing with this kind of situation?

Lu'Lu' Rahminto Alfan wrote: "That was a really good point, guys. Yes, I do occasionally gardening in my spare time. This kind of activity makes me feel relaxed. But then sometimes, I feel bored doing gardening, its because lac..."

For me, I will try my best to be more consistent and embrace my ikigai, find my purpose of life, be ignorance sometimes because someone will always have different opinion (cons) with us, and just like what is on Ikigai book that we should surround ourselves with good friends and cut those who are toxic for us.

Lu'Lu' Rahminto Even though I only make a small changes, I will try to do it consistently and always improving it.

Couldn’t agree for more, Alfan. Sometimes I also feel that. I feel tired of going exercise routine. But, I always make a reminder for myself, “remember why you started.” This is such a motivation for me, bcs when I remember that, I feel like “it’s not worthy for me to give up, bcs I’ve done so far.” And sometimes, whenever I feel tired, I just make a break time for me, but not so long, maybe just about 1-2 days, and then I go to exercise again. Hope u understand what I mean:D

What a good explanation Elin, your explanation makes me realize that we should remember why we started and don't give up on something that we have done this far, and also we can take a break if it is needed. Thank you Elin.

I think we are on the same page, Alfan like sometimes I lose my interest and have no intentions to do that, because I have another thing to do on my priority list, like my tasks which have to finish as soon as possible due to the short deadline. But, yea I try to make my weekend to do the exercise and stuff.

Yea, totally agree with your statement. Its easier to do a thing when we had someone who support us. Its like we have support system and never let us down.

Lu'Lu' Rahminto Nabilaiko wrote: "I think the tips that given will be very influential for us, because they not only provide tips for maintaining a healthy body, but also tips for mental health. So it will be balanced."

Yes, both mental and physical health are covered in a book.

I have read in the book that you cand find the purpose of your life by ask yourself what you love, what are you good at, what does the world need from you and stuff. Maybe you can start from now to do those things to find out your purpose. Good luck, Lulu!

Nabilaiko So can I conclude that the environment plays the biggest role?

message 31: by Engelin (new)

Engelin Isabel Nabilaiko wrote: "So can I conclude that the environment plays the biggest role?"

I think yes, because the environment is the most important aspect of our life. From the environment, we can easily be influenced by anything; for example, if good friends surround us, we can also become good friends from others and spread positiveness to them. But, if bad friends surround us, we can easily become bad and negative people as they did, it was because every day we are together with them.

Syarifah Nur Nabilaiko wrote: "So can I conclude that the environment plays the biggest role?"

Hmm, I dont think so, Nab. In my humble opinion, ourselves that play the biggest role, maybe sometimes environment does. But, the thing is ourselves are the key, like intentions, consistency, and stuff are coming from us, and it will be useless if we have support system but we have no intention to live our life or vice versa.

Lu'Lu' Rahminto Nabilaiko wrote: "So can I conclude that the environment plays the biggest role?"

I don't think so, but yeah it takes role because environment here have a large meaning, it is not only a living environment but also our circle of friends. The other aspects that take role are ourselves, our mind, and how good we are on controlling ourselves. I think, all those aspects must be balanced.

message 34: by Alfan (new)

Alfan Fahru Nabilaiko wrote: "So can I conclude that the environment plays the biggest role?"

I think the surrounding environment also have impact in our mood. For example simple thing like studying it can be so hard or more easier to do. It depend on how we create an atmosphere that we can really enjoy it the most.

message 35: by Nabilaiko (new)

Nabilaiko what a good opinion, I do agree with you guys. If we don't start with ourselves, we won't be able to. Thank you for the good words.

Lu'Lu' Rahminto I see that we kinda face the same problem that we tend to get bored and not be able to be consistent. Maybe we can apply the second and ninth point of the book, those are "Take it slow" and "Live in the Moment". Do you guys remember it?

Yes, I do remember. I try to implement 9th point right now, because as I said before, when we do some things like tasks, works, and stuff in rush it will produce unsatisfactory result, on the other hand when we enjoy everything we do the result will be satisfactory.
