This book was set during WWII in France. A blind girl lived with her father. Then moved in with her uncle. A GI found her and helped her out after her uncle didn't come back. There was a German officer, who was ill, looking for a gem that her father supposedly had transported to safety from the museum. Her father had been a handy man at the museum. I read it last year, but the name escapes me!
