I read a book for the story and to watch the protagonist meet and overcome his or her challenges, I don't read because of the hero's or the author's race, but in our current troubled times, it might be worth it to hear of Frank Petersen's travails and success,
I found this review (from RKGreen) on Amazon. 5 STARS
I love the way this book is written; conversational, frank, humorous, self-reflecting, and honest. I joined the service twenty-five years after he did, and experienced many of the same racial discrimination that he faced. I particularly like how family and friends interjected their thoughts and memories throughout the book. He demonstrates that obstacles can be overcome with help from shipmates and family, and that you always need to check your six when you're a black officer or enlisted person. I wish the senior officers in the military would read this book, they could learn a lot from it. I highly recommend it to everyone!
