no. Here it is:
“Legacy, go to Edmond University. This is your opportunity to fulfill your dream, and you are trying to turn it down. You will be happy there,” Mom said with a smile.
“Believe me, I really want to go but if I do you will be here all alone. Xander is in Africa, helping them get a better clean water and sanitation supply, and Lily is too young to take care of you by herself.”
Mom sighed. “I’ll be in the nursing home. I’m going in today, after you leave.”
I nodded. “I’m gonna go pack,” I said and mom smiled.
When I got into my room, I looked out the window. The first thing I saw was the sunset. It looked so beautiful. When I saw the sunset, I smiled. I will officially be an Edmond University nursing student tomorrow night. I packed my bags. By the time I finished, it was nearly midnight, so I went to sleep. When I woke up, it was 5:30. I got up, got dressed, and ate breakfast. I said goodbyes to my mom and baby sister, Lily. I got in my car and started driving. After hours of driving, I came across a beach. I parked my car, took off my shoes, and took a long walk along the ocean. I thought about what it would be like to be a Edmond University nursing student. There is a chance that I may graduate, but then again there is a chance that I won’t. Edmond University is the school that I could afford. Edmond University has always had a very low graduation rate. The highest GPA that a student had is a 3.5. After half an hour of walking along the water and thinking about the negatives of going to Edmond University, I decided to think about the positives.
If I graduate, then I will be able to learn more about Mom’s sickness.
-----
I was five years old when the diagnosis came. For five weeks before the diagnosis, Mom kept telling me that her muscles ached. She was always sick and had a fever. Xander, my older brother, took her to the hospital. The doctors conducted at least 5 tests.
“Good morning, Ms. Clarke,” the doctor said. Mom and Xander smiled. I was too worried to smile. “We have the results from all of the tests that we conducted,” he continued.
“What’s wrong with my mom?” I asked worriedly. When I spoke, it sounded like I was on the verge crying, which was expected, because I was.
“I have good and bad news. The good news is that your mom is not sick. The bad news is that your mom has Encephalitis,” he said quietly.
“What’s that?” I asked, befuddled. Because I was only five years old at the time, I started crying. Xander hugged me and tried to calm me down, but I kept crying and crying.
“Encephalitis is the inflammation or swelling of the brain. Encephalitis often happens because of an infection. When I was looking at your records, I found that 8 years ago, you got Meningitis. That is the swelling around the brain. I believe that the Meningitis may have caused yoru Encephalitis,” he said.
I started crying even harder. If what the doctor said was true, then couldn’t Mom die? If her brain swelled too much, then she could die.

I got in the car and drove the rest of the way to Edmond University. Once I got theore, I received my dorm number and key. When I opened the door to my dorm, I was in shock. The inside of the dorm was massive. It was like a mini penthouse. It was so pretty inside. The bedroom was way better compared to the bedrooms back home. The bathroom and laundry room were like a cradle. The bathroom and laundry room were tightly packed. Not a lot of space to move around in.
After I got settled in, I went to the cafe to get something to eat. There, I met a guy named Chase. He was getting something to eat as well. We started talking and ate together. Soon, I realized that he and I had so much in common. We hung out each and every day for the next 6 months.
Chase and I were inseparable. A couple of weeks passed by and I realized that I was starting to develop feelings for him. Since it was Valentine’s Day, I made a card. Inside of the card, it says:
“Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
You are my best friend,
And I've fallen love with you.
Chase, I’m glad I met you. Not only are you my best friend, but you are the one I really care and love.”
I went to his dorm and knocked on the door. When he opened the door, he looked upset.
