I have read as many as there were about 10 years ago lol And, yes I think it has been long enough that I should start at the beginning, if I'm going to do it :)

message 102: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4549 comments I have to reread the books again. I've read the first 7 but it's been a while since I finished that 7th one. I could probably get by rereading #6 and 7 before going on to #8 but I'll probably start at the beginning. I just really like the characters so I don't mind the length of the books.

Exactly, you get invested in them and all of a sudden, OMG is the shortest one really 825 pages lol dear gawd < face-meets-palm >, but they really do just fly by ;)

November is the month where a lot of people put time in to write Selma, perhaps this could be your year? What type of book would you like to write?

I bet that would have been just amazing to be a part of and to hear. Goosebumps just thinking about how beautiful it would have been.

☆ (salmareadsbooks98) I have tried to make drawing a daily habit to improve my skill but I got busy and forgot about it. I am planning to work on in October.
That's so cool I have heard about Inktober but never knew what is it about!
Thank you Sarah❤️❤️

If you click on "reply" under someone's post, a portion of their message is copied in italics. That way, people will know that the comment is in reference to. If you are on the app on your phone just use @Katie (or whomever you are replying to) so that your reply has some context.

No problem. We're happy to help you any way we can. If you have questions, just holler. There is a thread called Goodreads 101 - How do I do Blank. It may answer some questions you may have. If it doesn't go ahead and post your question.

Awww, thanks Janice, that's very kind of you. I've been trying some new things, so bit of a learning curve, but it's a lot of fun and I find it very relaxing.

message 117: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I have changed my book. I did not like EvEvvie Drake Starts Over. I could not finish it. I also was reading it in the wrong month.

I am going with another thing on my bucket list. It is to stay in a luxury hotel, The kind of hotel where millionaires are met by name. Where your every wish is granted before you wish it.

I am going to read The Night Manager. It has the hotel but it sounds like spies will be with me . I will get my stay but it wont be relaxing

Janice, I only have Nova Scotia, Newfoundland/Labrador, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut left on my list, but he hasn't been North of Fort Mac, or East of Toronto, so lots for him to see.

And, sorry for the delay, Goodreads has decided that I don't get to receive notifications anymore 😞 so, it takes a little longer to see all of the things that I should lol

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Kristie - I should have put "to go to Australia" on my bucket list too. Besides the moon, it is the only other place on earth I have ever wanted to visit. I am looking forward to reading The Survivors.

message 123: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am going to read Ivan Doig's book Work Song, which is set in Butte, Montana. In 2016, when my sister, Carol. and I were on our road trip through Montana, we drove up and over the Continental Divide on a little two lane road and came down beside the largest open pit copper mine in the world, in Butte, Montana. It was one of two of the scariest roads we drove during our trip. I am sure we would have been scared out of our senses, if we had known where we were, but it was dark and overcast, and fortunately, we seemed to be the only ones on the road. As we came down highway 15, looking for the connection to highway 90, we saw the mine, but did not know what it was - just that it was huge. On highway 90 we drove almost all of the way out of Montana (going east), passing Yellowstone Park, and finally found a place to stop and sleep, just before the border to South Dakota. I just finished googling the locations and looking at the satellite images of the mine and Butte.

What do you mean by "have a house keeper"?

Well I started off with "house cleaner" and decided I want more than just cleaning. Someone to also plan meals and shop for them. Coordinate my household schedule, Bring in the mail. (Be my slave! lol!)

And you're right, everybody should have a best pose. I don't have one so I look awful in photos.

I did find a book for this: Picture Perfect Posing: Practicing the Art of Posing for Photographers and Models. It is really directed to professional photographers though.

I did find some photographer hints that I might try to keep in mind, as a subject of amateur's phone snapshots.

Don't face the camera square on. Turn your body a quarter turn.

Don't hold your arms directly at your sides. Pressing your arms against your body just pushes the meat (fat) into a big bulge.

Don't take a full body shot, unless you are showing off your clothing. It's your face that is of interest.

If you want to hide that shadow that emphasizes your double chin, don't lift your chin and point it at the camera. Instead, "think" of bringing your ears forward instead. You may feel a little unnatural but you will get a better result.

Position your head so that your nose is within the frame of your face. For instance if you are positioned with your body turned, do not let your nose point past your ears. This means you will have to ask the photographer to not have your nose stick out into the air!!

There is no advice for eyes that are faster than the speed of light! I seem to have my eyes shut in a lot of photos. :D

Goodness, it might be easier to have someone else (better looking with no defects) pose. A surrogate poser.

Roz | 4549 comments Pragya wrote: "Roz, did you like the book you were reading?"

I gave it 3 stars (liked it). It's about a 60+ divorced photographer whose popularity has diminished. She's got debt, elderly/sick parents and takes a cabin in the woods a couple of hours outside NYC, renting out her Manhattan apartment to cut costs and find a new direction for her career. She meets new people (some quite entertaining), finds a new project, learns new things about herself along the way. It was pretty good. BTW the title refers to her most famous photograph.

message 143: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Oh I remember that book Roz. I had forgotten I read it. I agree with your 3 stars. It was a good read. I hated the title. I know it was for her picture. I just didnt think it was descriptive of the book

message 144: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4549 comments I find that a lot of times I'm confused about why an author chooses a particular title. Sometimes it doesn't make sense to me either. I guess, the title was chosen here because the photo associated with it defined the character so much. No matter what she did, she was always tied to that one photo. Even when she was trying to resurrect herself with a new series of photos ((view spoiler)) everything was still compared to that first one.

Kristie | 19277 comments Now that the toppler is done I'm starting my challenge book. I'm sticking with The Survivors for Australia. I actually got this book for the stormy waters on the cover for TT, but I don't think I'll get to my next badge anyway. I have really liked Jane Harper's writing in the past, so I'm looking forward to it.

(Edit: Turns out my cover has much calmer waters so it wouldn't work for TT anyway. The Survivors by Jane Harper , And I actually need that task for my current badge! I'll read Heartbreak Bay (Stillhouse Lake #5) by Rachel Caine for that.)
