#51 Author names in different languages should not be merged. Rather, the English name should be removed from the Tamil profile and the English name should be made primary on all books. This project deserves its own thread.

Author names in different languages may NEVER be merged. Rather, the international/English version must be added as primary.

General remarks:Most librarians don't speak these languages. Please state, where not evident, what the correct version of the author name is.
Also remember that if a non-Western author has not been published in English or another language using the Roman alphabet, the author name should be in the script of the language in question.
And another reminder that authors published in English or another language using the Roman alphabet should have the English/international name on their books first, and the name as on the cover second. Profiles in different languages should not be merged.

It is still not entirely correct, though. See f.e. comment #70, M.R. Kamala. I merged the other profile into that name, but I only see books in Kannada in the author's book list.
There are two possibilities:
1) the author has never published (or been translated) in English or another (Western) language. In that case, M.R. Kamala must be changed into the author's name in Kannada script.
2) the author has been published in English or another (Western) language. In that case, their books in Kannada should have the author's name in Kannada script added as secondary author.
The same counts for most of the other authors posted in this thread. Also, many titles need to be transliterated back into their own language's script, see f.e. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... and https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
This takes a lot of work and research, and needs to be done by native speakers.

One of the books on the Grace Jill Schireson profile has the full name on the cover, so we may not delete it.I merged the other profile into the claimed one.

I'm not sure what you did with these, but librarians cannot merge Goodreads author profiles. Please contact Goodreads support for this.

1. You have changed your author profile to a non-standard name.
2. Goodreads is a book cataloging site with specific author naming conventions.
3. Changing your author profile name creates cascading problems.
4. Books retain the original author name on the cover of the first edition as the primary author.
5. Your secondary name has been added to the existing works.
6. If you choose to claim the second author name, you can do so with a different email address.
