Grace Brouse This chapter is about word choice and how it can range change in many ways like if there are different audience levels, if the author wants to be casual or formal and more. One activity that is mentioned in the textbook is teachers asking students what they look when thinking of strong word choice and problems that can annoy or confuse them when related to word choice. In order to help students, there is a guide for word choice that goes by levels, 6 being the highest, where the word choice in their writing piece is very strong. I really like how the textbook also provides the same guide for teachers to grade students, as it will keep students and teachers on the same page rather than confusing one or the other. Another idea that the textbook suggests to use while teaching about word choice, is to make sure students feel comfortable using their resources. This could include dictionaries or thesauruses that are around the classroom or even asking their teacher for help changing commonly used words in their writing piece. I would strongly incorporate the use of resources as I always felt pressure not to use a dictionary or thesaurus because other students in the classroom weren’t using them.
