Grace Brouse This chapter is about teaching students how to incorporate voice, defined as “the imprint of the writer on the page”, into their writing pieces. Voice is the how the writer expresses themselves in their writing, thus allowing readers to see glimpses of the author through their writing. This can mean authors stating where they are from or their opinion, that can be detected in their pieces when there is an opinion or bias statement. Similar to the previous chapters in the book the book includes a student writing guide and teacher check guide for each individual to stay on track during the writing or grading process. I would use these guides for myself and students to outline clear guidelines for each of us to use. The book talks about how each writing piece from the same author should have similar characteristics of how its written due to the common ground of the writer. The textbook also provides students and teachers with samples that can be examples for passages or paragraphs of authors pieces that are too long to read the whole thing. Students read the sample passages then answer the provided discussion questions, in order to analyze the presence of the writers’ imprint on their piece.
