Girl Reading Books Too (girlreadingbookstoo) | 36 comments Hi, I'm hoping someone can answer a few questions for me. I got contacted by an author and she asked me to do a few things which I did not think were possible and I told her that I didn't think I could do it for her. She has a lot of books and she wanted to tidy up her Goodreads profile.

First off, she wanted to update the covers of all her books. So she wanted to create alternate cover editions of the books. I know that can be done. I thought a Goodreads author could add the covers themselves but she said she was getting error messages saying only a librarian can do that. Is that true?

Then she was unhappy that books that had her listed as an illustrator, she didn't want to be associated with the book or the author anymore since the covers have been updated and she was no longer the illustrator. She wanted her name deleted as the illustrator from those books. Is that possible?

Finally, she was unhappy with this other author's books also showing up in her Goodreads Author profile so she was thinking of deleting that profile, but I didn't think that was possible since she's got like over 6 pages probably 70+ books associated with that author profile all the books with lots of ratings and reviews. She wanted to delete that profile and start over with a new profile and I didn't think that was possible because those books with all the reviews cannot be deleted per Goodreads guidelines.

Would appreciate some insights.

Thank you.

Scott | 8973 comments Did she actually illustrate the interior of the books, or just the covers?

If she is the interior illustrator, the books cannot be removed from the profile nor the profile deleted.

Alternate cover editions can be created by a librarian.

Girl Reading Books Too (girlreadingbookstoo) | 36 comments Thanks.

Follow up questions and a clarification:

1. Can a librarian remove the books from her profile or does an admin need to do it?

Will deleting her name from the book title as illustrator remove the books from her profile automatically?

2. She did the cover. There are no internal illustrations. She was the cover designer for the older version of the books but the new covers are done by someone else.

Goodreads does not add cover illustrators, so those may be removed to comply with GR standards.

Sandra | 31455 comments To answer #1 Either, depending on how many books you want to remove. Keeping in mind that there is a wait from staff as they are super busy during Covid.

And yes removing her name as the illustrator will remove the book from her profile, though it may take a little while due to caching.

Girl Reading Books Too (girlreadingbookstoo) | 36 comments If I do #1 as a librarian, how is that done? I don't think I know how to do it.

Thank you for your help.

Girl Reading Books Too (girlreadingbookstoo) | 36 comments Thanks, Suzi, I can remove her as the cover illustrator of those books then. Correct?

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7861 comments When I'm contacted privately to make librarian edits, I always encourage the person making the request to post in the Librarian Group.

This puts the request in the right spot so any available librarian can work on it. For example, I'm quite comfortable handling some types of edits and not so much with others (Awards comes to mind right away!). Especially with multiple requests, this opens up having the work done more timely as different librarians can work on different tasks.

You had some great questions, Deanna; thanks for posting them. 🙂

Girl Reading Books Too (girlreadingbookstoo) | 36 comments Thanks Dobby. This was a curly one as I have not been asked about any of these before and I didn't want to make any mistakes and doing something wrong or that I'm not supposed to do.

Correct. Just make sure you put in a change comment so other librarians know why the illustrator credit was removed when we check the logs
