Toast is the first single from Jamaican artiste Koffee’s debut EP titled Rapture. She was (and still is) mostly popular among Jamaicans, but after Rapture won the Grammy award for Best Reggae Album in 2020, she now has a broader international audience. Winning the award made her not only the first female but also the youngest artist to win the award, which made the entire country of Jamaica proud. Even with a lot of hype surrounding her music now, I still think that Koffee has stayed humble and down-to-earth, two qualities which are highlighted in the song Toast.
The song is written and performed in Jamaican Patois, a dialect I grew up speaking; therefore, I may find the song more relatable than most. As a result, I would give this song a rating of five stars. In addition, I think that the song has catchy lyrics to a unique rhythm. I listen to the song when I am reminiscent of spending the summer with my family in Jamaica. If you like reggae or more specifically reggae-fusion, then I believe that you would like this song or any other song by Koffee.
