ABANDONED. Mystery (maybe also Suspense) book I read between 5-7 years ago, no idea when it was published, about a man searching for his girlfriend who faked her death in front of him

This is a book about a man who witnesses his girlfriend jumping off a building right in front of him. He believes it's her although he can't bring himself to get too close to the body. He soon discovers that it was a faked suicide and he sets out to uncover what is really going on and where girlfriend is. The only other things I remember is that he is constantly quoting movies/tv shows and/or random facts about history/sports; and that there's gunfire out at a cabin by a lake. I think it was maybe the girlfriend's family cabin and he's out there looking for her and whoever is behind what's happening starts shooting at him. He doesn't see them and manages to escape unharmed. I was listening to the audiobook version and I remember gunfire sounding at that part as if it were a radio drama. The whole audiobook had not been like that up to that point, like a radio drama I mean, so it really stood out.
