Personally, I think the Great Perhaps is the defining moment Miles wanted at his new school. His whole life he didn't have any friends and wasn't good at anything (except memorizing people's last words), so I think he wanting to have something amazing happen at his new school. That is just my opinion, and I may be totally wrong. Let me know what you guys think!

Yes, exactly! Something that could turn his life around. Do you think he found the great perhaps? Was meeting Alaska his great perhaps?

just my own theory :D
Rowan wrote: "I always thought the great perhaps was the future, like perhaps everyhing has a reason and that we do not yet know what that reason is. Seeking the great perhaps then probably means that the seek ..."
That makes a lot of sense! Alaska sought the Great Perhaps because she did not want her life to keep going the way it was going. I also think Alaska committed suicide though, so I guess she gave up on her Great Perhaps.

Maybe her great perhaps wasnt enough to keep her going and that her past was far too engulfing to allow her to seek the great perhaps
i dont think her primary intention was to commit suicide, but in her state at which it happened, the moment arised and she took it.
