Brenna's eyes go wide "four?!" she exclaims as the doctor comes in"Alright Brenna. time to get you shaved and prepped." he says. Brenna groans nervous and she holds her chair for a moment
Bren squeezes her hand tightly as the doctor unlocks the wheels of the bed. they had gotten special clearance for dusty to come in as he is a medical alert dog as well as assistance dog
"don't leave me" Brenna saysThe scrub nurse comes over to Haylee "hey I'm the scrub nurse. I'll be helping to scrub up to be in the OR"
Brenna smiles and they head their separate ways
Bren smiles softly "I'll come to school after my two weeks and in two days everyone will have shaved heads" Bren says jokingly"Alright Bren I'm going to give you a light sedative for the first part then we are going to go ahead and numb up the incision area" the doctor explains as she hooks up a syringe to Brenna's central line
Brenna smiles and squeezes her hand "I'm glad I have you" she says as the doctor presses the plunger of the syringe and the meds come over her like a blanket of fog and Brenna quickly becomes drowsy
"you should sing that to him again. or maybe I'll sing it" Brenna says."Alright Bren. I'm numbing the area now. It's going to sting a big" the doctor says as he checks the syringe then he presses the needle in
Bren squeezes haylee's hand tightly as the lidocaine stings in her skin
"I'll have to talk to mr. shu." she says. she cringes and cries out when the doctor numbs the next area "ah damn that hurts!"
"it's just the stuff they use to numb the area. It stings." Brenna says"you're doing great Brenna. that parts over and it should be smooth sailing from here" the doctor says as she discards the syringe. "alright we are going to give that a few moments to work some magic."
"Just talk to me hails. I have enough singing in glee" she says jokinglythe doctor picks up the scalpel "Brenna I'm going to start making the incision now" he says and he presses the blade to her skin "you'll feel a bit of pressure but that's normal. If you feel any pain at all you need to tell me"
"well I like Alyssa for a girl" Brenna says. but as the doctor starts to open up her head, she panics. "I-i change my mind! I don't want to do this! " she cries. Dusty crawls up on her stomach, sensing the distress"Haylee I need you to calm her down. Brenna we've already started and we can't go back. everything is going to be ok" the doctor says calmly and professionally as he looks at the monitor which is beeping an alarm because of the sudden spike in blood pressure
Brenna looks at her, obviously scared but she takes a deep breath and the readings on the monitor return to normal. "I'm scared something will happen and I'll end up brain dead.. " she says softly
"talk to me about something. anything." Brenna says as she squeezes haylee's handthe doctor works for about an hour, asking Brenna to do a few simple tasks such as sing the ABCs of clap her hands. After about an hour he puts down his scalpel. "alright Brenna you're doing great. you're done with this part and now you can go ahead and take a little nap. we're going to put you under general anastetic now. and when you wake up, if all goes well you'll be able to walk more than a few steps" He says as the anesthesiologist checks all her gear and she checks the mask one last time before she brings the mask to Brenna's face
Brenna smiles and she quickly falls asleep due to the gasa nurse comes in to take haylee to the waiting room for the rest of the surgery
The doctor comes out to the waiting room and he puts a hand on her shoulder to gently wake her up
"she's doing fine. she's still in and out of consciousness but you can come see her if you like?" he asks
Bren gives a sleepy smile at her. Her left arm, which holds her IV, is draped over dusty who is sleeping. "hey baby" Bren says in a slurred voice
"like crap..." she says softly and she gives a sigh. everything on her body is sore and she feels sick. "can I stay home from school today" she asks. In her sleepy state she thinks she is at home in bed
"no breakfast..." she mumbles before falling back asleep.The doctor comes in shortly after "how's she doing?" he asks as he glances at her chart
The doctor nods "she'll sleep it off for the next few hours. try to wake her up once in awhile and get her to talk a little. ask her how she feels. just get her to say a few words to keep her brain activity up"
"if you want to, feel free to the other bed" the doctor says and he points to the empty bed on the other side of the room
The next day Bren is back to her old self
"well I will eventually. I've got a starting point" she says with a smile as she is still using the mobility harness on dusty for support "I'll get there"
Brenna takes a couple more steps then she feels her legs getting weak again. "I need my chair. I don't feel like falling flat on my face" Brenna says as she has most of her weight is on dusty
"you only tell me like every single day" Brenna says with a smile
Brenna smiles and then she looks at tty he doctor "can I go back to my room now?"
Brenna smiles and wheels herself forward
Brenna itches a bit at her bandage around her head
"but it itches!" she whines as hay Lee moves her hand
Brenna sighs and goes back to pushing the wheels around

Brenna smiles as she is walking next to haylee instead of in her wheelchair. "so what do you think about that singing in the rain and umbrella mash up that mr. shu put together?" she asks. dusty is a long side, wearing his mobility harness just in case

Brenna is out running with dusty beside her. The air outside is crisp and cold but just warm enough to make the ice slick. As she runs she slips on a patch of ice and her head slams on the cement and ringing fills her ears

dusty comes up to the front door, barking, which he only does when something is wrong
dusty barks and leads her to Bren who is sitting against the curb holding her head
She slowly shakes her head "my head...it hurts like hell"
((I kind of figured she would be back to where she was before the surgery))Bren groans at the pain
"get dusty's vest." Bren says to haylee as they get her on the stretcher and the pain grows to nearly unbearable
Bren holds her hand "my leg is numb again...my head hurts like hell...This is a really crappy day" she says as the paramedics do their exams
