Change: Post your BC reads in the new thread

I finally trained myself to look at the book clubs, for great alternative buddy reads.
It would be great to have everything located together, although I guess the monthly list will be quite long.

I'm glad the idea is valuable. I might be able to create a comprehensive list at some point. Margaret was doing that for a while. But I think the bookshelf will be really useful when up to date because you can sort it by date and see all the covers coming up at a glance. Surprisingly, regular buddy reads have been thin lately, so the list isn't terribly long...

Yea... everyone's kinda burnt out on planning... about the only semi-planned BRs I do at the moment are the ones where Tammie says she's ready to read something we both want to read...

I figured it easier to do on the spur BRs in the Clubs because that takes away some of the management/upkeep stress for Mods.
Plus, I don't think people are reading as much for a variety of reasons.
I actually miss having 2-4 BR's plotted out for each month. I'll try to post in the BR thread & see if there's interest. =)

Those are the only ones I can bring myself to get to also. I wonder if it's part covid and part challenges burnout. Even so, I'm glad a lot of people have found a new flow. I'm just trying to adapt our managing to reflect it.

That has been hard. We've been a bit scattered for sure. For what it's worth, I've finally figured out how to tell where to check for thread requests (I'm an idiot - I thought they were being emailed to the other mods and I just missed the memo) so I've been checking for requests every day mon-fri and see no reason why I can't continue that. I do miss seeing a bulked schedule. Times are weird though. I'm sure we'll fluctuate again at some point.

With series, it would probably help more to link the first book in each series, for the bookshelf
Like, here's a couple from the book clubs I frequent:
A Study in Scarlet Women -- Lady Sherlock, #1
Sleuthing for a Living -- MacKenzie & MacKenzie PI Mysteries, #1
Space Team -- Space Team, #1
Into the Black -- Odyssey One, #1
Patient Zero -- Joe Ledger, #1
Rage -- Rogue Team International, #1 (sequel to Joe Ledger series)
Soulless -- Parasol Protectorate, #1
Etiquette & Espionage -- Finishing School, #1 (spinoff prequel to Parasol)
Prudence -- Custard Protocol, #1 (spinoff sequel to Parasol)

Wonderful, thank you - I've added both to the shelf. :)

Me too... I always end up bailing for whatever reason unless it's a new release planned. I HAVE to be like "I'm reading this Saturday... join me?" or else I get swamped lol.

I think I'd rather post what's actually being read at the time, mostly so anyone glancing at our dashboard can see what they can actively join. If there were a way to customize, I'd add a book club section to the dashboard and highlight what series each one is reading, but alas... goodreads.

A list like this would be great on the first post of every bookclub thread though. Anyone exploring those could get a quick idea of what's going on.

I thought the same as Soo but didn't want to be blunt 😅
I've been using the Last Minute Thread to avoid asking for threads because no-one was creating them and I felt rude having to ask/prompt! 😅
I would love to see a full buddy read schedule again. I hope people start to return when the world gets back to normal a bit.
Hope everyone is doing ok and looking after themselves. ❤️

I don't blame you, I would've felt the same. Like, we need a thread now... but do we want to make a thing out of it? Awkward, lol. We were all sharing responsibility for it (minus myself because.. idiot), but no one had the official task of making sure it got done. I'm taking accountability for it now, so we should be good. :) I really do apologize - I feel to a degree that the lack of activity has a bit to do with how quiet we've been as MODs. I know everyone was making an effort to check in when they could, but unless you can commit to being here every day, things are bound to slip through the cracks. I have this thread set up on email alerts, and I check the request form a couple times a day mon-fri so I'll be less likely to miss stuff.

Oh... I thought you meant the bookshelves people can peruse... not that top 5 thing that people see on the group front page...
There's this whole bookshelf section you can look at, in groups, and i peruse that sometimes in my groups, for ideas...
Some groups have like a "100 series to try before you die" shelf

Most of my book clubs started with a post like that with ideas to get us going... I don't think anyone ever went back and maintained the list tho... sometimes it's trouble to even keep the title-linked book accurate...
Me and Tammie kinda commandeered the Mystery Club thread from Elinor, who created it :D

I definitely check in less often these days... some days I comment quite a bit, or try to catch up... others I just let things slide through the cracks...
Most of my effort lately has gone into meeting spreadsheet modification requests...
I'm like 3 months behind on spreadsheet book tracking, and 6 months behind on GR tracking... it's gonna be hell to fix, as many re-reads and KU/etc books I've checked out and returned...

But I think you're right that the low activity is to do with how quiet the mods have been. Thank you for checking the request spreadsheet through the week. ☺️ I'm sure that will make it easier for people.
I'll try to remember to post here whenever something new starts on the YA thread! I try to keep the title up to date etc on what we're reading there so that others can see it and join if they want! 🙂

That makes sense, I see where we got confused lol. I'm hoping to reshape the bookshelves so we can use it reliably eventually.

That's a great attitude to have about change. I'm so structured about everything I do that it's hard for me to accept change, even if it could be for the better. In this case it kind of feels good to adapt to what the group is doing. I figure if we get more activity in the future, then we can adapt then and add features back in. So far the new system has been easy to keep updated.

The scheduled BR's are the backbone of the group. I always look at the list to see if there's something I want to try or reread. It'll be nice when that's the core of the group again.
The Book Clubs have been great because it let more spur of the moment BR's to happen and there's been a couple of great talks from those.
Scheduled & spontaneous is a nice mix for me. I like it. =)

I've noticed a lot of our group buddy reads are taking place in the book club folder now. I would love some help keeping track of what y'all are reading so I can add titles to the group bookshelf (and, by extension, give myself and others the opportunity to join the reads).
When a general start date is decided for a book, could someone comment on this thread and let me know what title and what date? I don't mind if it's last-minute. It would be massively helpful.
Thank you peeps! <3
