I read this short story in a collection in a college course about 7 years ago (2013 or so). I believe it was told from the POV of the boyfriend. They go out to eat the night before her marathon and she eats spaghetti in an effort to carb load. The boyfriend was frustrated because she was so motivated. At the very end of the story, he trips her or something while she is running. Or he poisons her drink. I can't remember! Maybe it was a dream I had. But he does something terrible to her as she is running.
