A collection of stories. One story was about a man who found a mysterious number, turns out the number was a location of his death. Another story involved a man travelling home who spent the night in an old farmhouse with a young man who had a lisp (described as "talking with a mouth full of mush"), finds out the next morning that he spent the night with a ghost
Read this back in the 1990's but the book seemed older than that.

The House of the Nightmare and Other Eerie Tales edited by Kathleen Lines. The number one is His Own Number, and the mushmouth boy is in The House of the Nightmare.
