Laura | 2513 comments If I remember correctly we picked Alicia- 2018

Anyone mind if we change it to 2020 the year Megan and I joined so I can read the new Sandra Brown book Thick as Thieves before I have to return it to the library?

Thick as Thieves by Sandra Brown
Read: Nov 2
Pages: 448 kindle edition
Rating: 3 stars
Qualifies: published August 25, 2020
Review: It's been a while since I read a Sandra Brown book so it was nice to be drawn back in her world. This book starts off a little slow and picks up with the suspense throughout. Nice little twist at the end which I didn't see.

I have high hopes for this one, but it sounds like maybe it's not going to be really great, but just ok. I'll probably wait until it's available at the library then, instead of buying it.

It was good and I enjoyed it. I'm glad I read it. It just wasn't outstanding or memorable in my opinion to warrant a 4 or 5 star.

Spooky Business (The Spectral Files, #3) by S.E. Harmon Spooky Business
Read: 11/2
Pages: 285/GR
Rating: 4 Stars
Qualifies: Published September 14th 2020
Review: I really enjoy the characters in this series. Rain's trademark snark is hilarious, and kept me laughing throughout the story as he encountered a serial killer, ghosts, and various other eccentricities. His boyfriend Danny is wonderful and a perfect match for Rain and his quirkiness. I'm really hoping there are more books to come in this series.

Marked by Death (Necromancer, #1) by Kaje Harper Marked by Death
Read: 11/2
Pages: 173/GR
Rating: 4 Stars
Qualifies: Published October 23rd 2020
Review: I'm a long time fan of Kaje Harper, but it's been a while since I've picked up a new book by her. I'm so glad I decided to give this one a try. I loved the characters and the story, and I'm hoping that there will be a sequel soon.

Midnight Magic Midnight Magic (Familiar Kitten Mysteries #2) by Sara Bourgeois
Read: 3rd November
Pages: 217
Rating: 4 stars
Qualifies: Published April 21st 2020
Review:This was interesting. I didn't expect to not like it because I've read the first book but I forget how easy her books are too read.
Thorn is getting annoying, I wish the author would decide, the cop or the vampire. I was warming to the vampire but now I'm not sure who is the decent character they're both acting like jerks.
The actual murder mystery was an interesting one. Not exactly shocking but a good twist all the same.

Please correct to the Kindle edition page count. Probably a copy and paste error - I do that ALL THE TIME!

78. Read 6 5 books with alliteration in the title or author's name.

Books selected need to have titles like Black Beauty and authors like Julie James. The alliterated words can be separated by a small word in the title or initial in the name. Drawing a blank on a name with an initial but a title like Divided in Death would work.

Hanover House (The Evelyn Talbot Chronicles, #0.5) by Brenda Novak
Pages: 244 kindle edition
Read: Nov 3
Qualifies: alliteration in title
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I like this series and this novella was as good as book one. I like Evelyn's character she shows strength and determination. I like the slow build up of a relationship with Amarok. Great mystery book with a dash of romance.

Fiancé by Friday (The Weekday Brides, #3) by Catherine Bybee
Pages: 341 kindle edition
Rating: 3 stars
Read: Nov 4
Qualifies: alliteration in title
Review: I like that this book has a little mystery or suspense to it. It certainly added to the story. I also like how each book includes the characters from past books who are now a group of friends. I like Neil and Gwen but the chemistry between them in book 1 and 2 is lacking in this one.

NautiCal (Forever Wilde, #8) by Lucy Lennox NautiCal
Read: 11/4
Pages: 286/GR
Rating: 3 Stars
Qualifies: Alliteration in author's name
Review: This is another installment in the Wilde series. They have all been pretty fantastical, and this one fits right in. Unfortunately, the cuteness of the characters wasn't enough to overcome the pure ridiculousness of the plot. But it wasn't absolutely horrible either, so I gave it three stars. But I have to say, if the author doesn't up her game, I won't be reading any more of these books either.

Witch Way To Spellbinder Bay Witch Way To Spellbinder Bay (Spellbinder Bay, #1) by Sam Short
Read: 5th November
Pages: 308
Qualifies: Sam Short author alliteration in the name
Rating: 4 stars
Review:Actually for a cosy mystery this was pretty good.
I think I'll read the next book but I think there are better witchy paranormal mystery books out there. Just happy to read on KU for free though!

78. Read 5 books with alliteration in the title or author's name
Going Once (Forces of Nature, #1) by Sharon Sala
read: Nov 5
rating : 3 stars
pages: 400 kindle edition
qualifies: alliteration in author's name
review: I think I liked the rescue efforts and the help given to the displaced people the most about this story. It was good but not riveting so I 'm not sure I will continue the series. I enjoyed the Cat Dupree series much better.

MountainKat | 31599 comments Here is Task 27:

102. Read 8 6 book published in odd months and odd years.

Books selected for this task need to be initially published in an odd month and an odd year. Use the initial publication date for this task. If there is a date listed at the top of the editions page use it, otherwise the qualification would come from the earliest dated English language edition regardless of format. For example, books published in January 2019 or July 2013 would qualify, but books published in February 2019 or November 2018 would not qualify.

Ghost Ghost (Lords of Carnage MC #1) by Daphne Loveling
Read: 5th November
Pages: 259
Rating: 2 stars
Qualifies: Published March 2017
Review: This book is OK. I have read worse MC stories but this just was so far off what I thought it was going to be.
The book isn't great if the MC is struggling. I just don't want to read that. I want success, just personally what I prefer to read.
The romance was weak. Sort of just shoved together. Just a little boring...

Order (Tattoos and Ties Duet, #2) by Kindle Alexander Order
Read: 11/5
Pages: 426/GR
Rating: 3 Stars
Qualifies: Published March 2019
Review: I'm not really a big fan of MC stories. The macho alpha asshole vibe just doesn't do it for me, but I really enjoy Kindle Alexander's books so I thought I would give this one a try. Alec and Key are total opposites, with Alec working for the DA and Key being a long-time member of the Havoc MC. I liked the characters, and I really felt for Key and his messed up history with his family. But the so-called love story between them just didn't really ring true for me. It basically just confirmed that MC stories aren't for me.
