Maggie | 68 comments Blue Moon certainly looks possible. It’s much harder to get guesses in the lightning round! We only have enough left to guess this puzzle.

message 102: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Blue Moon isn't it. Maybe Dear John? It topped the list in 2006. Shall we guess D? We only have one guess left!

message 103: by Steven (new)

Steven McCreary | 141 comments Finally finished the second book in the Dragon Riders of Pern trilogy. My daughter has decided that naps can only be had if I'm carrying her in both arms now, which is severely limiting my reading time

message 104: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments D sounds good. I just finished another book so we will get another guess!

message 105: by Irene (last edited Sep 17, 2020 01:14AM) (new)

Irene (irene5) | 907 comments Thanks Perri, Devin, and Steven!! Hope all of you are staying safe as well! Perri, your comment made me laugh out loud because with a year like 2020, zombies doesn't sound that far off!

And darn, I thought Gone Girl was a great guess!! I'm reading my book right now (or as soon as I post this comment) so by tomorrow morning we should have another book completed, so halfway to another guess.

message 106: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments I just finished one book, which earns half a guess. I'll post D on the guessing thread.

message 107: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Should we guess R??

message 108: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments We're ready to guess the title, aren't we? We've guessed 4 letters.

message 109: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Maggie- We can guess more than 4 letters. Are we sure we know what it is?

message 110: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Hmm we suspect Dear John, unless we think it could be something else? We can’t guess R, S or T in the lightning rounds, so we’ll have to choose another letter if we want to guess one more.

message 111: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Oh, I didn’t see the new rules for the Lightning Round!! I was wondering why 2 of you were saying that 1 book only counted for a .5 guess. Whatever you guys think! I think we are safe to guess Dear John. I’ve never heard of it but it was a NY Times Bestseller.

message 112: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments If we guess and it's wrong do we lose?

Steven thinking about your with both arms wrapped around your newborn daughter makes me smile :)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11192 comments Mod
If you guess and it's wrong, you lose one letter guess :)

message 114: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Do we want to be on the safe side and guess an R?

message 115: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11192 comments Mod
Can't guess an R, S, or T in the lightning round!

message 116: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments I forgot already Emily! 🙄 Thanks.

We could go with J or H. Do any of you have a preference- guess the title or 1 more letter? I’ve got to take a phone break and get some work done for the next few hours. My preference is to guess an H but I’m ok if others want to guess the title.

message 117: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Is it cheating to look through lists of #1 books on the NYT bestsellers lists? Haha. I looked through all the lists back to 1990 (the lists are on Wikipedia), and Dear John is the only one that fits. Of course the book in the puzzle could be older than that.

message 118: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Heck no, that’s not cheating! That’s how I found Gone Girl. I guess go for it. I don’t know what else it could be.

I’m really taking a GR break now! My husband just took our grandson to the dentist so I have ~1.5 hrs to get something done!

I think I’m going to start a new book, Terra by Mitch Benn, today, which I just realized works for a Pop Sugar prompt that I was struggling with (made up language). Sag Harbor is not doing it for me. Too much cursing.

message 119: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Le'ts go for it!

message 120: by Jax (new)

Jax (jaxn) Let's go ahead and guess Dear John, what do we have to lose?

message 121: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments I put it in! Fingers crossed.

message 122: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Woo hoo! We got it! Good job guys! Next letter for the new puzzle??

message 123: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Yay! How about N?

message 124: by Steven (new)

Steven McCreary | 141 comments Well done on the Dear John guess. I just realized it was Thursday, and now am sad that the week is almost over.

message 125: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Great job Maggie!

message 126: by Irene (new)

Irene (irene5) | 907 comments Awesome guess!!

message 127: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments There’s no N but we have 5 more guesses. There’s a 2 letter word. Maybe an F for OF? We could try H. First word might be THE. Thoughts?

message 128: by Steven (new)

Steven McCreary | 141 comments I’d say do both of those

message 129: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Done. F and H submitted.

message 130: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Looks like the first word is The. That’s all we got! Any ideas? I went through a list of books with food in the title and couldn’t find anything. The category is On The Menu.

message 131: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Wait, did we guess N?

message 132: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Yup, we’ve tried N, H and F, and only have one letter in the puzzle out of all of those! I’ve been looking at lists of food and drinks in titles too and I can’t find anything. This is tough. Maybe L? Or M?

message 133: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments L and M We'll work our way through the alphabet :)

message 134: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Shall we guess one letter at a time?

message 135: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Good idea. If we get one it might alter the next choice

message 136: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Okay, I'll post L.

message 137: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments L isn't on it either. I really don't know what it could be. I've looked through several lists and the only book I've found that could fit was The Mistress of Spices, but that's not it because there's no F in the title.

message 138: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments try M and then I can keep reading :)

message 139: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments M it is. Why not?! Then we can all get back to reading and other stuff! This is a tough one. I don't like the new rule with the excluded letters!

message 140: by Steven (new)

Steven McCreary | 141 comments I think the two letter word is at, which we can’t confirm because we can’t guess t

message 141: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11192 comments Mod
Oops I made a mistake. Your spreadsheet has been updated.

message 142: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Emily we're drumming you out of the Weasley family ;)

message 143: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Do we want to guess The Mistress of Spices??

message 144: by Steven (new)

Steven McCreary | 141 comments Finished another book (third in dragon riders of perm series). That's another 203 pages

message 145: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11192 comments Mod
Hahaha it's happened at least once to every team... for some reason, the small words get me. I always forget there's an H in THE, or the F in OF. My downfall.

PUZZLE 9: PERSON
Book titles in this category contain someone's first and/or last name.

message 146: by Steven (new)

Steven McCreary | 141 comments Should we guess M?

message 147: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments Sure, I'll post M.

message 148: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 68 comments No M. Shall I try N?

message 149: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments Go for it!

message 150: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3840 comments I think it’s Robinson Crusoe. I suggest going w C.
