My friend wants me to add the books for the refugees should be about the war from the early 1990s as that is the war she was a refugee from. Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia would be awesome. She was born on the border between what is now Bosnia and Croatia, and lived in Slovenia for awhile.
Books mentioned in this topic
Drita, My Homegirl (other topics)The Day of the Pelican (other topics)
Evie Brooks Is Marooned in Manhattan (other topics)
I doing research for a class and have found quite a few books with child immigrants from places like China, India, Russia, etc but none from English speaking immigrants.
I am looking for books about a young immigrant, say aged 10 to 15, who moves from England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales to either Canada or America.
The book should deal with culture shock of moving, and feature the struggles English speaking immigrants have moving to another English speaking country and the discrimination they face in both the immigrant community and in the North American community.
I know I read a book about this many years ago but I don't remember enough details for me to ask for help with finding that specific book, so I am wondering if there is more.
My second ask is for books about specifically young refugees from the Former Yugoslavian states to North America. A friend of mine is trying to explain to her kids what it was like to be a refugee from that region as their teacher last year taught them that there is no such thing as refugees who are not from Asia, Africa of the Middle East.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
