Chapter 4 focuses on how to organize a paper, that creates a steady flow for the readers to engage in. The textbook describes organization as the main tool in creating a well-structured paper because it provides the back bones for how the paper is told. In the beginning it talks about warming up the readers, by creating a good lead that will hook the readers into wanting to read more of the paper. This can also be described as giving readers a taste of what the paper will be about, but not giving too much detail that they don’t need to read the rest in order to find what it’s about. In the textbook it describes some design methods that students can use to help organize their paper. Some examples are step by step, problem-solution, main point and support, using these examples with students can generate an idea in their mind of how they should be writing the paper. It can also help students that know what they want to talk about in their paper, but struggle with how to set it up effectively. Another strategy that can help new writers is using transition words. For example, first, secondly or lastly, can be effective in telling a story because it helps the reader to stay in chronological order. One tool that I found useful in this chapter is the interactive questions and activities that it provides for teachers to do with their students. Each listed activity will help students to become more organization skills for papers.
