I hit the part where the main party takes on the Mercs, and does anyone else feel like their- aggression, I guess, is a bit oddly overboard? They pretty cheerfully kill off a bunch of mercs and don't seem to suffer from much moral issues as a result, despite being the aggressors in that instance. While it's been fine watching them take out stuff like demons, it feels like having the main party carve up a bunch of mercenaries who haven't really been clearly established as being 'bad' people is a bit- odd.
A big part of the books so far was how diplomacy works against a lot of foes, and minions are people too, and what not, but then this big action sequence in the middle seems to completely fly in the face of that. There's even a bit where, Iirc, one of the main characters cuts down a guard who doesn't have their weapon on them, and there's zero guilt, or anything. It's just- weird, and felt weirdly out of place.
