Lucile Guo | 1 comments I started reading the series in 2012 or so. The author's last name is something along the lines of "Skralinsky" but I know that all variations I'm coming up with are wrong. The books: the main characters are Jack (around 14yo) and his sister Ashley (11ish). Their mom is similar to a social worker; their whole family takes in temporary foster kids. There's usually a new foster child in every book/adventure. The book in question takes place mostly in Hawaii, the mom is supposed to be on her vacation, the dad gets to photograph a volcanic eruption, they take in a Vietnamese(?) foster child at the last minute. The kid had separated from his family as they were escaping their home country which is why he is now in foster care, his grandfather is a purple heart recipient, he has an aunt/grandmother of sorts in Hawaii too.

Lucile, that's a good start. Copy plot details from your message #1 to the topic header/title, so someone could recognize your book from that description alone. Many members only read the headers.

We have thousands of YA requests. We close threads with vague headers.

Click the small "edit" link after the topic header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, there's a "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)
