Grace Brouse Chapter two goes through how instead of teachers assigning writing to their students they need to prepare students for the assignment by allowing them to pre-write, going over the important six traits and more. If teachers provided students time to pre-write before starting the writing assignment it gives students the opportunity to layout the ideas they want to share in their paper. It can also filter to the students learning style, when they chose their form of pre-write. As students are starting their pre-write it can come in many different forms like a life map, a webbing picture and even a drawing. In the textbook, I find it very helpful that it provides examples of different options that students have chosen for a pre-write, not limiting it to one. Having students pre-write before starting the writing assignment gives students the opportunity to layout the ideas they want to share in their paper. When the chapter talks about revising it mentions the idea that students point out what they could work on, but also what they think they did well on. I think this is important because it a student is told multiple times that they are not doing well, then they are going to think they are failing. It is very important to boost a student’s motivation, but also help them become better writers.
