Grace Brouse In this chapter it presented the idea that the best way to understand what we are reading is by writing, meaning that students and other learners should take notes by hand, summary what they read and more to best grasp the concept they are reading about. I agree with this because as I take notes based on reading for my classes I write down the facts that I found important or facts that could help me in my future teaching career. This helps me to remember them for future situations and have a place to look if I need advice. Writing from reading can be used in the classroom as long as two important things happen. Teachers need to ask effective questions that will stimulate students’ thoughts on their readings and students need to be taught how to effectively answer questions. If these two components are presented in a classroom, students and teachers will be able to understand their reading materials in the best way possible. Another point that the chapter mentioned is timed free write in class. While this can be an amazing way for students to express their thoughts on paper, other students might find this as a loophole. Through the loophole students would have the chance to doodle on the paper, write the same word over again and more. I remember having a timed free write at the beginning of class in high school and some days I knew what I wanted to write about, while others I was the student that found it as a loophole.
