Language/sexual content?

Melissa The language is limited to slang invented by the boys in the Glade, so there is no actual cussing in the book unless you count the made up words as cussing.

There is no sexual content at all. It is actually a very clean series as far as language and sexual content go, but there are some terrifying themes that may be difficult for a younger reader to handle.

Kelly Brigid ♡ One thing, that I loved about this book (other than the fact that it's an amazing book and trilogy), is that there is NO sexual content at all! Completely clean book! Yay! There's not even any kissing in this book (there's like 2 kisses throughout the whole trilogy).

As for language, the Gladers make up their own slang, such as "shuck" and "klunk". The only swearing is the occasional "c**p" and once or twice ""d*mn" is used.

Izzy There isn't much because they made up their own language, it's the movie that you wouldn't want, it has some bad language.

Amy Just wondering, why woukd it put you off reading the book if there was sexual content? Not judging, just curious :)

Amy That's fine, I see no point in giving people grief for their harmless opinions :) Hope you enjoy the book, and if you haven't alread seen the movie, I recommend it!

I'm so glad someone else actually likes to keep their entertainment clean. :)

I don't like all the books now a days, they're filled with that kind of stuff. It's terrible

I think books should be rated like movies.

Yeah, it really ruins the books...

I completely agree.

That would be really cool, although movie ratings tend to not be very accurate anymore."

But it would be better than nothing.

A.J. I totally agree. It is so hard to find a clean YA book to read.

T.C. Michael Overall, the whole series is pretty "clean" so to speak. As you might already know, this is a young adult dystopian book series. Keywords = young adult and dystopian. A dystopian novel usually revolves around post, pre, or present apocalypse. When you live in an apocalyptic world (use your imagination) things aren't always rainbows and butterflies. So there is some harsh words and violence, but the swearing and sex is slim to none. James Dashner seems to be one of the only YA authors so far to leave out romantic sexual content. I would recommend this book to young teens even, because the content is mild. Hope you enjoy :)
