Gia Yes, I definitely want to continue with the monthly children's classics:) This has been so fun and I feel I've made some great book friends too! I like all those ideas you mentioned above, and I'm happy to read a series, a stand alone or a mixture. I'll think about some book ideas. Thank you so much, Shannon, for hosting such great buddy reads!

I agree with Gia :) I love having monthly children's classics buddy reads and all of your ideas too and great book friends :) I have a few books to suggest: any of the Chronicle of Narnia books, Pollyanne, Five Children and It, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm to name a few :)

message 3: by Gia (new)

Gia @Janice Great ideas! I've read all of the Chronicles of Narnia but I would happily reread all of them again in a heartbeat. My favorites of the series are The Horse and His Boy and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader:) All the stories, though, are so good! I haven't read the other books you mentioned but would love to read those too!

message 4: by Gia (new)

Gia I promised to think about some book ideas: Black Beauty, Little Women, Beatrix Potter's books, the Bobbsey Twins series, the vintage Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series, The Arabian Nights, Where The Sidewalk Ends (fun poems). Also here's some seasonal ideas: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (although this one might scare me, lol!) A Christmas Carol by Dickens (is this a children's book?), and At The Back of the North Wind by George MacDonald. Just some ideas, hope this helps:)

message 5: by Gia (new)

Gia I'm happy to read the whole series again, a complete immersion into all things Narnia! But whatever you all want to do works for me:) As for the order, I guess I'd go with Chronological but I really don't mind either way.

Thanks :) My favourites of the series are The Horse and His Boy, The Magician's Nephew, and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe :)

These are really great suggestions. :) I just put At The Back of the North Wind on my library TBR list. :)

Janice | 193 comments I would love to reread the Narnia Chronicles again as its been a few years and I really enjoyed the books. I would prefer to read them Chronologically. :)

Another author I would like to suggest is Thornton W. Burgess. My kids loved these books. We have The Burgess Seashore Book for Children, The Burgess Bird Book for Children, and The Burgess Animal Book for Children. All of the animals have names like Reddy Fox and how they interact with each other and facts about them. :)

message 9: by Gia (new)

Gia @Janice Now that you mention it, I think The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is also one of my favorites. I just recently discovered At the Back of the North Wind; it's on my TBR list too! Oh, Thornton Burgess...going to have to look these books up, sounds wonderful. Thanks!

That sounds like a perfect beginning for the Narnia books!

For October I would read any of those you listed. I have the first two, unread, on my shelf, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Witch of Blackbird Pond. The Halloween Tree looks fun! (I think I'm no help at helping decide October's read, lol!) And, I am happy to read anything that is non-Halloween, too, because I'm not a fan of Halloween or scary books in general. (But I'll certainly be better at reading children's Halloween books than adult scary books, which I can't read at all.)

Gia @Shannon Yay! Nancy Drew in 2021!!! She is my absolute favorite sleuth of all time. I read all the books growing up, I still have most of my vintage copies, and bought the rest as I found them along the way. There are only a couple I am still missing out of the whole series. Then as an adult I reread all the books and they were as much fun as I remembered growing up and still just as suspenseful! Gosh, I love these books!

Oh yes, Trixie Belden! I only have one remaining, very tattered book of "Trixie Belden and the Black Jacket Mystery." Lol! I should reread that book sometime soon...

Yes, we are well on our way with lots of great books to read! :)

I remember reading all the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books my elementary school library had and I haven't read them since so this is wonderful. :)

I'm with you in regards to not being a fan of scary books especially adult, but I wouldn't mind reading children's scary books.

I have never read any of the books suggested for October so I am open to whatever the majority vote is. :) And I love the idea of reading two of the Narnia books in November and December. Thank you so much for this group and all the planning you do. :)

Gia @Janice Great! It's really good to know I'm not the only who can only read the children's scary books...this will be so fun! :)

My daughter loves scare books and movies just like her Dad :) Count me out :) Unless it's children's scare books or movies and that's enough for me :)

Janice | 193 comments I would like to read The Witch Family :)
I also have some more book recommendations to add to our reading list: Tales of Magic series by Edward Eager. I have read #1 Half Magic and #3 Magic by the Lake quite a few years ago to my children as well as The Moffat Family series by Eleanor Estes. I have only read The Middle Moffat but really enjoyed it and again quite a long time since I've read it. Also Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink and All-Of-A-Kind Family series by Sydney Taylor and Little House on the Prairie series. :)

message 23: by Gia (new)

Gia I would like to read The Witch Family too! Looks like a great little book!

Wow! Wonderful list of fantastic books there! I've read Wrinkle in Time and the Little House series many moons ago. I have Because of Winn Dixie on my TBR shelf, never have read it but I've seen the outstanding movie, a favorite. I'm so thankful learning about all the other good books you've both shared!

That will be such a fun. I have only read the first book on the series and totally devoured it.

Can we also include Lucy Maud Montgomery?

I have watched the movie of A Wrinkle in Time. It was legit. I would savor reading the novel as well.
