SOLVED. Fantasy/YA reincarnation novel about a man from modern times reborn into a fantasy world

I read the book sometime in 2018/2019. Its about a man who was a killer (maybe a serial killer, maybe a solider or contract killer) in his life but when he died he was reborn with all of his memories into the body of a teenage boy in a fantasy or at least pre-industrialized world.

He is born into a very wealthy merchant/banking family but is very far away from his family in another city and has to fend for himself. He uses his father's reputation and some local contacts to establish a lending business and business relationships and some romantic ones.

I believe he goes around buying up the debts of his friends or those in debt to his rivals and offers them very reasonable agreements.

At one point he is kid-napped but he manages to escape and saves a girl who was kidnapped with him. He falls back on is previous life experience
to uncover who was after him and starts to plot revenge.

He is young enough that he needs to enroll in a university so uses his connections to become accepted at the last minute to study at the local university.
