g.vee (gvesthetic) | 2350 comments I don't care about JKR as such. I love her work, and Harry Potter may be overrated, but don't deny the fact that Harry Potter is indeed great. I like the work, but not the author as such.

aurora *ੈ✩‧₊˚ (aurorareading) don't like her as a person, but love the harry potter series. all her other books are garbage/boring tho. :)

message 111: by Yasmin (new)

Yasmin Silva I don't like her either, her opinions are totally wrong, but I will not stop liking Harry Potter because of that, Harry Potter was my inspiration for reading, and nothing will stop me from liking it, in fact, I was never a fan or I cared about JK, I just really liked the Harry Potter series, but that before I didn't care about her now I really don't like her way and opinions, I don't like HER in general, and I'm very angry and sad that a person like that is author of my favorite series

kashvi (mistyrealms) guys can i just say one thing? you can keep loving hp in private, but im requesting you this,

please remove your hogwarts house from your bio if you have it there, even if you have put a "disclaimer" that you dont support jkr, because a trans person might not see your disclaimer, and if they keep on seeing people praise hp or jkr, they will be extremely hurt.

I get that hp was such a big part of our childhoods, but is it really worth it if millions of trans persons are getting hurt because of it everyday?

message 113: by 1xrr (new)

1xrr (israfazyl) | 56 comments umm is hp what's hurting them? isn't it JK Rowling? I know she's the author but I love Hp, I'm still a fan. I've never really cared about JK Rowling herself and I don't even now. but I don't see the harm in liking HP? but that's just my opinion and I don't mean to offend anyone

to be honest hp also has some harmful rep + if you promote hp or talk about it the author is basically getting money for it, so we're indirectly supporting her

and like im not saying that you need to condemn it, im just saying like dont post about it a lot, read it in your own time i guess?

yea same im not trying to offend anyone, just saying some things that i felt

message 115: by andrea (new)

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments i’m also not trying to offend anyone...but i know some trans people with their hogwarts houses in their bio? so i’m not sure if hp is the problem?

also, i don’t support j.k. rowling or anything of the sort, but she’s already one of the richest people in the world...like a literal billionaire...so i don’t know how much talking about harry potter affects her directly or indirectly

again, i’m not trying to hate or anything! i despise jk rowling and her beliefs, but i don’t really see how having our houses in our bio has anything to do with it?

message 116: by Yasmin (new)

Yasmin Silva for me liking HP does not necessarily mean supporting Rowling, as I said, I don't like it and I never cared about her, JK is wrong, not HP, and I think we should not belittle the series because of the author (my opinion)

message 117: by kashvi (last edited May 18, 2021 10:16AM) (new)

kashvi (mistyrealms) this is what jkr has done and even included in her books sometimes:
transphobia, ableism, anti-semitism, asian hate, racism, fat-shaming, lgbt+ stereotypes/homophobia

hp isn't as glamorous as we take it to be, so please educate yourself before supporting an author or book, which contains harmful speech/content towards specific communities/ people in general

you can read more about it over here:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.heya...

removing your hogwarts house won't really affect anyone but its just a way to show that you're an ally to trans people, at the end of the day its your choice :)

message 118: by andrea (new)

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments i know, i have looked into jkr plenty of times and *definitely* not excused her foul behavior. the intolerance she appears to have for minorities and discriminated groups is unforgivable, as she misrepresented and poorly portrayed many groups in such harmful ways. do we see any latinx representation? no. any non-stereotypical asian rep? no.
however, i have always been someone who is able to separate art from the artist. do i support jkr and her "beliefs"? no. absolutely not. can i continue to love this series, acknowledging that it has a shitty author and, at times, problematic content? of course.

message 119: by andrea (new)

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments of course, and i will forever be an ally. that's why it also says in my bio that anyone who acts in ways that will harm the lgbtq+ community or any race or gender or anything of the sort will not be tolerated.

But I can't bring myself to stop loving HP. It was one of the series which got me into reading. So I have an emmotional attachment to it.

It should be noted before I say anything else that I am trans and that I don't even like Harry Potter as a series for a number of reasons.

However, I don't see how someone having their Hogwarts house in their bio is really promoting JKR; it's not like they're actively recommending the series to people by doing that.

I do see where you're coming from, but I don't completely agree with you on this.

I do know everything JKR has done and obviously I do not agree with her "views" at all, and if someone was actively recommending Harry Potter to people, I wouldn't really approve of that since that would be considered supporting the author.

Really agree!!

message 124: by Yasmin (new)

Yasmin Silva yes, I really agree that JK's prejudiced characteristics are present in her books, and this is horrible, really horrible, contempt and I can even say that I hate her opinions and her way of thinking, I just want to say (without offending anyone), that maybe there are people who like the story of the work or like a character of her but don’t know about her itself or don’t know what that information is expressing, I mean, these people cannot be supporting it, I may be wrong, maybe I’m talking nonsense, maybe I don't even know much about it, I just think that not everyone is supporting JK
by liking hp (again without wanting to offend anyone), I really despise JK and the ideas she spent on HP,mainly me that hp was my childhood, and realizing these things is horrible

I can't really comment on the hogwarts house thing anymore, as I am not a trans person, but some of my trans friends were feeling uncomfortable because of it so I decided to talk about it :)

also I never said to completely condemn hp if you love it, I just said dont promote/ actively recommend it, i agree with you on that

Ofcourse you can continue to love the series, I just felt like addressing the fact that some people continue to love the series and support her, they just ignore the problems with the series too

Yea, now that jkr has said these things and its reputation is tarnished, I am always careful to say that I like the series, not the prejudiced author, so as not to imply that I support it

my mom actually read the essay that Just Kidding Rowling put out and learned that her main reasoning for being a transphobic piece of garbage is because she has trauma about men in the woman's bathrooms...and it's not an excuse. her argument is barely coherent :/
