katie ❀ (whisperngpages) This just makes me hate her more.

message 53: by Rheanna (new)

Rheanna (goodreadscomuser_rheanna) @El In Oz she said that some random very minor characters, for example Anthony Goldstein, were Jewish to try to demonstrate that Hogwarts was diverse. It didn’t really work tho since the Harry Potter books are kind of anti-simetic with their portrayal of the goblins.

☀︎El In Oz☀︎ (elinoz) Oh ok.

I wish she hadn't decided to go into route she is going, with changing all the lore and not taking the time to rewrite it to make it actually make sense. (view spoiler)

message 57: by Rheanna (new)

Rheanna (goodreadscomuser_rheanna) Yeah the stereotypes in Harry Potter are astounding

Charlie ~ Happy Pride Month! (strangelittlereader) .....

why? Why must she do this?

message 59: by Rheanna (new)

Rheanna (goodreadscomuser_rheanna) It just seems like she’s trying to be relevant, and failing.

message 60: by Lilly #2 (new)

Lilly #2 (stormiiclouds) | 4 comments I hate also how so many of her fans are just willing to ignore the fact she's transphobic and racist, and will just say stuff like "Well that's her opinion!" and "Her opinions don't matter, I just like reading the books!" By supporting her opinion and continuing to read these books, you are supporting her and supporting transphobia and racism.

message 61: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 922 comments it makes me feel guilty that I love the books. I don’t know what to do anymore.

I think it's fine, as long as you are aware of JKR's foolishness and you educate other readers who don't know.

Also, if you can stay away from buying anything harry potter related then you aren't supporting her which is good! <3

message 63: by celine (new)

celine i think there’s a fine line to walk in terms of problematic authors and artists. i think it’s ok to say, « i have a great love and nostalgia for harry potter, but don’t support jkr ». and i personally still reread the copies i’ve had for years. but i won’t be buying any new copies or reading her new stuff, such as the ickabog or whatever it’s called.

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah. I"m pretty sure a lot of people are boycotting her new book :3

Exactly! My friend says she doesn't really know what JKR says she just likes the books so I sent her a link to a post that explained exactly what JKR said and she never responded. And I'm mad at my brother because he put stuff from the offical HP merch on his christmas list, which means my family will probably support JKR by buying it, so yeah. it's be so much easier if he would just buy non official merch

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah, like stuff from etsy or redbubble.

message 67: by celine (new)

celine exactly! what you already own from her cannot be helped, but the biggest way to show support for the marginalized communities she’s hurt is to, now being educated, is to stop further monetary support. merch, theme parks, etc.

message 68: by bookishcarli (new)

bookishcarli | 63 comments Nikki wrote: "yeah, like stuff from etsy or redbubble."

Yeah! Unfortunatly, he probably wouldn't care if he got another brand but since he knows I don't like JKR he wants to support her (cuz he's annoying like that)

message 69: by Lilly #2 (new)

Lilly #2 (stormiiclouds) | 4 comments She's also said and done homophobic things in the past. It's sad that one of the most famous authors in the world is so hurtful.

andrea hartmann (andrea_h111) | 1446 comments I love Harry Potter but hate her and her “beliefs” so idk what to do 🥺 I certainly won’t be reading her new book

message 71: by Abby (new)

Abby | 6 comments I disagree with her views, however I love the Harry Potter series. I admire how hard she worked to get her books published. She also helped create the modern middle age genre. I am not deffending her however I do appreceate the positive things she has done.

annoying brothers
*sigh*

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) It's offensive and wrong of her to insult transgender people, I support the queer community without a doubt, but I think some people are overreacting.
I read some of her tweets and to me, I think she isn't attacking people, she's just outspoken. She says what she thinks, that's the way she is. I'm not defending what she said, it's horrible, but I'm just saying social media, articles and news are often one-sided. They only tell the story from one perspective and exaggerates it, like Rita Skeeter does.

Amanda Artist Cat (amandawholovesbooks) I'm sorry if I offend anyone, it's not my intention. I'm just saying what I think, I might be very wrong, it's only my personal opinion.

message 75: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 922 comments yeah, I just think some opinions are better left unsaid.

message 76: by Anushka (new)

Anushka (bookish_swiftie) | 1234 comments @Sherlock Holmes I completely agree with you. We should learn both the sides of the story and then form an opinion. The media exaggerates everything, they just need a topic to gossip about. JKR was wrong, but we shouldn't attack her this way.

Thank you so much, Anushka! :)

message 83: by Yasmin (new)

Yasmin Silva I don’t have any social media’s , so I don’t know what JK do , but I know that she say horrible things , and I be very sad when I know about that , because Harry Potter serie is my favorite in all the world , and for what I see , she was a great person , but is this is not what seemed
From what it seems, the only good thing is her mode of write books

message 84: by Rheanna (new)

Rheanna (goodreadscomuser_rheanna) I just want to say that even though there are similarities between the wizarding world and things such as racism, that doesn’t mean jkr didn’t know employ lots of racial stereotypes. There are so many things I could point out but especially the fact that Cho Chang is incredibly racially sterotyped and that her name is even two last names. I believe the books are problematic but you do bring up some good points

Tisha (On partial hiatus) | 99 comments I don't agree with JK Rowling's comments, but I think that she did a impressive job on the books, but they lacked humour.

message 86: by Bumble (new)

Bumble Greenbriar (hernameiscrumpet) | 922 comments I actually think they were pretty funny

Well, after reading Rick Riordan, I thought so anyway.

message 89: by Bumble (new)

Tisha (On partial hiatus) | 99 comments I agree

Tisha (On partial hiatus) | 99 comments “Behold!" Percy shouted. "The god's chosen beverage. Tremble before the horror of Diet Coke!”

rick wins evry single time

Lucy Tonks (the invisible life of a reader) | 416 comments jkr is a horrible person, i cannot enjoy harry potter anymore bc of her. every day i'm thinking of changing my name bc it was originally inspired by hp, but i've had it for literally six years and it became the name i use everywhere online

Isa (isamrqz) | 166 comments i hate her lol

Tisha (On partial hiatus) | 99 comments Yes, we all agree that JKR is very wrong in her comments about some topics, but I don't see why we should let it mix with her literary work, which is written with passion. I don't like her either but I don't let her views on things get in the way of liking a amazing book series.
