This is such disappointing news. While there hasn't been a great deal of chatter around the project to bring Banks' Culture universe to the screen, it seemed to be progressing nicely - not least because Amazon boss Jeff Bezos is a massive fan.

Sadly it is not really a huge surprise to me. This project has bounced for ages and part of me thinks the Culture series is in many respects 'unfilmable'. I love them but trying to find a common thread to carry a few seasons through would be hard. Suppose you could adapt one novel as stand alone each time but I wonder if the pacing would suit modern audiences.
