I'm reading a book set in Mauritius called The Last Brother by Nathacha Appanah. It was published in French in 2007 and was translated into English in 2010.I'm very impressed so far.

TY Dear Rosemarie.
The Last Brother sounds good. I noticed that Tan Twang Eng, the author of The Garden of Evening Mists has a newly published book out called: The House of Doors if you haven't read something for Malaysia. Also I am currently reading: Texaco which is about Martinique and so far it is a fabulous book.

The Giller prize longlist came out recently (biggest literature prize in Canada), and one of the books on it- We, the Kindling-takes place mostly in Uganda, about girls abducted by the Kony's rebels. It is by an Ugandan Canadian author who is part of the Ugandan diaspora. I read it today (it is on some libby libraries and is available as an audiobook as well), and is a sometimes disturbing but great read.
From this year's Booker Prize longlist: Love Forms takes place between London and also substantially Trinidad and Tobago. I quite liked it and it is bittersweet tale about a Trinidadian woman who gives a baby up for adoption, and later moves to the UK and tries to find her.

I have read another of her books and quite liked it. I have this one on the list.
Did you see where Pick a Color by Souvankham Thammavongsa has won the Giller Prize?

I did! Pick a Colour (My edition had Canadian Spelling for the title lol) was a strong novella that explored themes of connection, isolation, and having value in a "small life" really well. Do recommend. My favorite shortlist nominee this year was "The Tiger and the cosmonaut" which I also recommend.
