Lizzie | 2057 comments Everytime I start planning for the future, I wonder if I should. All the local festivals through October have been cancelled. Radio City Music Hall cancelled Christmas this year. So, do I buy a car or will I die from the virus before then. Will my kids come for Christmas or do I plan on skipping it this year and looking for vendors with free shipping to male presents?

Then I started watching a TV show today called "Hard Son". It's a cop show but the world is ending in 5 years and the government is keeping it hidden. First, I have no doubt it there was a world ending event our governments would all keep it a secret. Chaos would result if the public knew. "When World Collide" was the first apocalyptic book I read (aside from the Bible) and the first movie of that type I watched (in an English class). I want to believe that if we knew we would join together to survive as a species. Unfortunately, I think it will be more like When Worlds Collide, especially when I think about how torn we are just over wearing a mask.

So, my vote is I don't want to know. What's yours?

Laura Smith (lsmith335) | 2 comments I think I do. I think I'd use the time I had left more wisely if I knew how limited it was.

Do you think the world would let you? I fear the complete breakdown of everything if it was only a few years. If it was 50 years from now, maybe we as a species would behave differently?

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments It depends :) If the answer is that it's the end, many will be upset, as most hope it isn't :) If the definitive answer is "no, it's not the end of the world", many would have a sigh of relief.
Don't know whether "uncertainty" is better than "bad certainty". Good certainty is probably is.. I'm thinking of those who hear from docs that they have an estimated so and so days/months to live..
Turbulent times like now feed all kind of thoughts and dystopian scenarios. However, if one disconnects from the tv & internet in some remote and happy location and the era might not look as fateful all of a sudden..

Angela Karnes (angelakarnes) | 16 comments So I saw a Jim Carrey interview (he's promoting his memoir) and was prompted to discuss Hawaii's missile scare/false alarm months ago. Turns out, Carrey was on the island when that went down.

He said he was shocked and the first thing he wanted to do was find his daughter/talk with his daughter. He also tried to get a plane off the island but found it impossible, given the event they all thought was transpiring. Despite his wealth and celebrity, he was doomed. He said when he saw he could not escape, he thought: "Oh man....This is it. It's really over."

Once consigned to his fate, he found a favorite spot of his on the island, went there and sat down, awaiting his demise. This would be the last view he would see in his life. That is how he chose to exit (had it not been a false alarm).

Papaphilly | 5042 comments I am not sure to be honest. I tend to think I would go down fighting. It is my inherit nature to fight with people. Although not knowing may be the way to go. No worries and no fuss.

Lizzie | 2057 comments I want to believe people would pull together, but I don't think they will. Mostly, the idea of it becoming public knowledge scares me with horrific outcomes likely. At the same time, the public's right to know has always been part of my belief system too.
