I have no idea. I know I should know, but no one was reading it, so I guess I let it slip.

Elizabeth Faustina (ourladysthimble) | 97 comments I was reading it, I was just… incredibly behind. 😂 Still am, as a matter of fact.

message 59: by Isabel (new)

Isabel (promise-of-god) | 88 comments I am too, haha. I'm still reading it though, just haven't had much time...
How's everyone?

Bill Eubanks | 15 comments So I have a question for the group if I may.
What is your favorite works by Tolkien outside of the Ring cycle books?

By the ring cycle you mean the three books in the Lord of the rings right?
If so, then the Hobbit, the Silmarilion, and Beren and Luthien.
If not, then I think maybe his translation of Beowulf though I haven't read it in years.

message 65: by Bill (new)

Bill Eubanks | 15 comments Thanks Elizabeth! I haven't read the Beowulf translation. I find it interesting that he worked on it over a six year period (1920-26) but then seemed uninterested (or something) in publishing the work himself. For it to have a clear influence on his creation of LOTR, I wonder what would head him to lay it aside?
I will have to see if I can find a copy of this in my constant book searching.

Well, I haven't read it in years, so I don't remember much about his particular style in that book.
That's interesting.

I haven't read any, although I'd like to!

Isabel (promise-of-god) | 88 comments This group hasn't been very active, has it?

message 69: by Bill (new)

Bill Eubanks | 15 comments No ma'am it has not!

Not very unfortunately. But I'm not sure how to make it more so... A read a long didn't work very well.

Elizabeth Faustina (ourladysthimble) | 97 comments Maybe we could get ideas from members about fun Tolkien/Lewis topics. An idea I have is that we could have a "Who said it?" topic, and people would post quotes from the books, and others would have to say which book and character said it.
