ABANDONED. fantasy- ranger/forester character, set between two lands, dragon eggs, bone witch, monster who hunts with flies, valuable thing hidden in a loaf of bread, series?

Read this book a long time ago as an audiobook I hired from the library, maybe around 2009-ish.
Listened to it in English, it felt like it was written by a male author but that is a guess.
I believe it was a series of about 5 books, these details I hope relate to the first book but I'm not sure, I'm looking to find the first book or any of the series.

Maybe YA but I read it when I was young so it felt Adult for me. May have had Adult themes?

- A main character male ranger/forester may have had magical powers but not sure.
- a female character of royal blood, this may have been hidden until later?
- something valuable is hidden inside a loaf of bread, I think hidden by a young girl
- dragons and hatching dragon eggs
- took place between two lands, I believe one had a monastery in it.
- a monster that hunts with flies, the flies would bite and hurt the prey, swatting the flies would alert the monster of the preys whereabouts
- a witch in a forest who helped people with bones?
- a scene where the ranger/forester is being chased around a large lake, I remember lots of travel around this large lake.
