SOLVED. Memoir written as fiction about being descended from Jesus [s]

I read this book in 2009 and it was a new release. The author, a woman, says it's all true but in order to protect identities of people in the book she wrote it as fiction. The author claims she is descended from Jesus and his wife. There are certain families with last names that indicate that you're one of the secret keepers. St. John is one I believe. Lacroix is another.
I believe the author discovered this as she was on a trip. There's a bit about a ring but I can't remember if she bought a ring at a market or she always had the ring in her possession. The book claims the keepers of this secret fled to France. Maybe the information was on scrolls. Maybe the secret was in the form of a child that was hid.
There was a sequel.
I'm reading a similar work of fiction at the moment which is jogging my memories and I'd like to revisit it.
