SOLVED. Fantasy trilogy, starts with a magic user forcing another non trained magic user to help her steal an artifact. There are 3 races on this world one i think is called charon? [s]

Solved. Ok so i realise this could be a long shot, this is a trilogy about a woman who is a magic user but untrained and not always reliable. She is forced to help another woman Maigrath? in stealing an artifact. there is a necromancer who is called the magistrate, who they steal the item from.
There is also another main character who uses items to focus his magic, i believe one of them is a ruby, and also a emerald, although unsure of the emerald.
There is a character who spends most of the 3rd book trying to escape a prison which is basicaly a magical prison in another dimension, i'm pretty sure his name is roulk or something similar. he creates a "construct" to try to bridge the barrier to the 3rd race home, i'm also sure the name of the 3rd book in the series is called roulks construct or similar.
These are not new books they have been around for some time as the last time i remember reading them was in the last 4-5 years.

Any help would be gratefully received as this has been irritating me for a couple of weeks already
