It's a book about an ex military guy that goes to a bar and gets into an altercation with another man. The man pins him against the bar. He punches the guy and takes off running. The police are called. The guy hides and later finds out the guy died as a direct result of his punch. He becomes wanted for murder and goes on the run. I read the book in the late 90's/early 2000's. Any help with a title is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If it helps he was an ex Special Forces soldier.
