I thought it was a little over the top. Sam is not a planner. He would have to know where the cops were traveling and if they had an escort car. He would have to steal a vehicle large enough to withstand a crash. He would also have to see the newscast that said the police were now taking Mick...somewhere. (I'm not sure where they were taking him.) I thought it was a bit absurd.Having the explosives on him did made sense to me. He was former Army and knew how to use them. I could see him blowing up the bridge. He had tracked Brody's vehicle and he knew which road he was on. At least this made a little more sense to me.
I was expecting Sam to rescue Mick, so I wasn't surprised. However, as Robin correctly points out, the plan was very involved and complicated and based on Sam's characterization, it does seem to be beyond his capabilities.
I was expecting Sam to come to the rescue too. They are used to finding vehicles to fit their needs especially trucks. I thought Mick said something about putting a tracker on the police vehicle. For me, it was a crazy plan from a crazy man. Also Sam brought the explosives with him from Las Vegas. He was reverting to his military days.
I was expecting Sam to attempt to rescue Mick but this was way too complicated for Sam to have come up with this plan. Mick was the planner. I thought this was over the top.
It felt a little over the top but you all made some very valid points. You changed my opinion to plausible😏
I don't know if I watch and/or read too many true crimes, but I'm always surprised by the things that people do. Looking back I still don't see the plan as too elaborate for Sam.They were together when they faked the one accident and grabbed the woman from the convenience store. If Sam didn't know how to use explosives he wouldn't have brought it with him. More than once Mick mentioned that once Sam gets an idea in his head, he will go to any length to get it done.
I didn’t think of Sam being that enterprising at first because he wasn’t much of a planner. But, in retrospect, what he did didn’t require a lot of planning. The execution was fairly simple because it was so brutal, without regard to loss of life. He might have pulled off the same thing without having to kill anybody.
