PattyMacDotComma I loved Aussie author Tabitha Bird's imaginative debut novel, and I've just enjoyed her latest, The Emporium of Imagination. I'm pleased she weaves her magic in her hometown of Boonah, Qld, but I want this Emporium to open near me, please!

PattyMacDotComma I loved An Imaginary Life by acclaimed Aussie author David Malouf. What a strange and fascinating life he's dreamed up for the exiled Roman poet Ovid, banished forever to a remote village with primitive customs (and no common language).

Esther (eshchory) Joy D wrote: "The Road to Lichfield by Penelope Lively - 4 stars - My Review"

I read a lot of Penelope Lively's books as a child and gobbled this one up when I found it on the teen shelf.
Despite the quantity of books I consumed in those days it is one I still remember though as an adult I realise that it touched on themes that make me wonder why it was on the teen shelf at the library.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 392 comments A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers by Xiaolu Guo

This was an East-meets-West and a coming-of-age tale about a young Chinese woman's experience studying English in the UK. Displacement, loneliness, and trying to fit in are elements common to migrant experiences on both sides of the Pond.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 392 comments Miracle in the Andes by Nando Parrado Miracle in the Andes by Nando Parrado

Although not a mystery, this story of survival under extreme conditions was a nonfiction thriller. It also seemed more harrowing because the author, one of the survivors, provided his thoughts and feelings about the situation.
