There was a lot of Booker Buzz about this book, and I really hope that the reason it wasn't longlisted is because it wasn't submitted. I adored this book and I really didn't expect to.
I know very little about Shakespeare and nothing about Hamlet, yet I was sucked right into this world. I found the writing perfect, the story moved at a great pace and I was never bored.
This novel dealt so beautifully with grief. There was a delicate level of empathy which brought you into the pain without heavy-handedness.
Interesting characters, great story, well told. I've not read a lot of O'Farrell but do plan to read more after this.

A 2020 favorite.
