Karen Barber | 13295 comments Do you really need the details? Twilight, from Edward's perspective...and it may even be a little different from the leaked version of a few years ago...

It's here! #1 bestselling author Stephenie Meyer makes a triumphant return to the world of Twilight with this highly anticipated companion: the iconic love story of Bella and Edward told from the vampire's point of view.

Jennifer Aspenson | 1 comments I'd love to join your reading circle! I had forgotten all about this release until I got an email from Amazon this morning telling me that it had been delivered to my Kindle! What an exciting day!

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Great, I remember reading the leaked version years ago...not nostalgic, but I’m looking forward to seeing what she does.

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Just had a sneaky peek at the opening chapter...and in my head I am replaying the movie...don’t think I can unsee it. As I feared, it’s wildly over-the-top but in a way that comes across as an attempt to make Edward seem endearing.

Jasmine I would love to join in on this one! Heading into the store tomorrow morning to grab my copy. ♡

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch4 (11%) - I wasn’t expecting a new story per se, but this begins with perhaps the most obvious scene where Edward and Bella first meet. It’s overwritten, and almost laughable, but I know I’ll read it with a positive spin!

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) About to start!!!

I knew I should have tracked down the original draft because now I'm constantly trying to remember if this matches what was there before.

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch12. I’m starting to think there’s a limit to how interesting you can make this when you are, essentially, telling the same story. I’ll prepare for awful comments, but at least we’ve been spared too much Jacob at this point.

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch14 (43%). What I am liking about this is learning a little more about Esme and Carlisle, and their relationship with the rest of the family.

Jiya J sorry if I am joining in late! but count me in for this too

Jiya J I'm on chapter 8 and I think that Edward is acting like a stalker in this book. I mean he walks in to watch Bella sleep, talks in a really persuasive way to get more info...
don't hate I love Edward but this book ain't portraying him nicely

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Agree, Jiya. He even calls himself a peeping Tom and it seems to be about showing how overwhelmed he is by his feelings for Bella. Regardless,it’s creepy.

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch18. There’s a lot of talk about restraint and not succumbing to passion, which seems at odds with the emotions being talked about. While the meadow scene is unbelievably cheesy, it makes a lot more sense following it from Edward’s viewpoint.

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch19. Definitely drawing out the time before Bella and Edward meet the respective parents. Not totally certain how much longer it can be delayed...but at least we know for sure they both fancy each other.

Jiya J Gurl!! Slow down. You r reading at the speed of light. I’m on chapter 10 and all my enthusiasm for this book has started to fade. I really don’t know why though

message 16: by Dee Dee (new) - added it

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) Karen I'm so far behind you! I've only just gotten to 8. I have to read in bits here and there. It's...strange. Nostalgia wise my inner twi-hard is thriving...but I'm also cringing...

Exaaaactly. She's flying!

Jiya J I know right! Calm down for a bit and let us catch up. Please
🙃🙃

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Jiya, you’ve summed it up so well. We know what’s coming, we know what’s happening in Bella’s head because we’ve already followed it and though this is giving Edward’s view it doesn’t feel like we’re being given anything new. Dee, I’m with you on the cringing. Part of me thinks I should abandon this as it’s not great but I think Meyer is relying on the feelings people had for Twilight at the time. Is that too cynical?

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch21. (view spoiler)

Jiya J I’ll have to get through this book any how to keep the twilight legacy going on. No quitting for me

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Up to ch23. (view spoiler)

Jiya J ooh cant wait to get there

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Jaya, there are definitely some scenes that this alternate perspective works well with.

Jiya J i liked the pov of edward in chap 9
the whole chap was interesting because i had been dying to know what was going on in his head and now i now...so it isn't all bad

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Finished. Review on home page. Mixed feelings on this one for certain.

Yeah, there are parts where I'm like finally, now we know what he was thinking.

Oh, I love your take on this, I'm not at that point yet but I'm looking forward to it.

Karen Barber | 13295 comments Getting inside Edward’s head certainly helps in some scenes. (view spoiler)

Jiya J Agree. Getting into Edwards head makes him seem more approachable and realistic, as opposed to the god like creature we met in twilight.
But then it also makes him a creepy stalker dude too

On chapter 12 and I WONT QUIT FIRBTHE LIBE OF TWILIGHT 😂

On ch..."

Couldn't stop laughing at this. How many readers do you think are getting through this because of how they recall feeling about Twilight?

Jiya J Many probably because the book isn’t so great after all

message 34: by Dee Dee (new) - added it

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) It really isn't. Sigh. I really thought I'd fly through it. Yet... Here we are...

I have to confess I went in with pretty low expectations. Think from now on I'll try to focus on reading stuff I'm keen to read.

Jiya J Well this book is really disappointing to me because I had high hopes for this one.
But anyways I’m on chapter 14 and all I know is that Edward here is really in love and his thoughts are so annoying at times. I’m on the scene where he and Alice head of to ‘hunt’ and I am curious to see how this plays out

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) So what Stephenie is trying to tell me is that (view spoiler)

Jiya J yeah he crazy in love

Jiya J I think the wolves weren't there because at that time Edward didn't know them so much. it was only Ephriam black he knew and his mention was there. I mean in the twilight he had no reason to think about them...

That's fair. He only knows Jacob in passing as well so I don't think he would care about the wolves. They weren't in his circle at all.

Yeah. The way he thinks about the humans in their school...ick. So shallow for someone who has a better insight into human nature than most.

when I don't find his self-absorption annoying, I find it funny and cute, like his jealously to mike, and (a little bit) tyler

Jiya J just reaches chapter 21. excited to see how the game goes

Yeah that part is right up my nostalgia alley. Mike deserves the hate haha

Jiya J Mike does indeed. He a first class shallow jerk. (Sorry bruh)

Dee Dee (Dee Reads for Food) (dee_reads_for_food) I am DETERMINED to finish this today! It's making me fall behind on my other Buddy Reads.
