Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments Thanks Ian... its great!
I would only suggest to move X-Force Omnibus between both X-Men by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee.

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments When they get around to New Mutants (And they must be doing so, right? Otherwise why leave them completely out of Uncanny?) what do you think will be in it?

I'm guessing Marvel Graphic Novel 4, Uncanny X-Men 167, New Mutants 1-25 (probably). And I think it would be read right after Uncanny X-Men Vol. 3, before a hypothetical Vol. 4.

That is on my Wishlist for ages.... but yeah, somewhere right after Uncanny X-men Omnibus Volume 3

message 58: by Ian Aleksander (last edited Mar 17, 2017 08:59AM) (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments Yeah, me too.

The thing I'm not sure about is the upcoming X-Men Classic omnibus. I don't see what it contains - is that the backup stories from that reprint line? Did they all take place in the uncanny era?

edit: found it
BACKUP STORIES AND NEW PAGES FROM CLASSIC X-MEN 1-44; MATERIAL FROM MARVEL FANFARE (1982) 60

so that's September 1986 - February 1990, June 1992

I'm guessing I would read it after the first Claremont and Lee volume.

message 59: by Bruno (new)

Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments Humm that is just "reprints" of the Uncanny X-men from Claremont...

The first issue was a partial reprint of Giant-Size X-Men #1 of the All-New All-Different X-Men era (originally published in 1975), and the other issues reprinted Uncanny X-Men #94-206, with the exceptions of #106, #110, and the "Days of Future Past" story from issues #141 and #142. Classic X-Men initially printed additional back-up stories further delving into and explaining the original stories. The series lasted 110 issues.

Or not read it at all if you have Uncanny X-men Omnibus volumes 1-2 :)

message 62: by Ian Aleksander (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments I mean, the backup stories are uncollected. Those are a bunch of new vignettes that have stuff like a funeral for one of the characters who was killed early on.

message 63: by Ooh_jim (new)

Ooh_jim | 251 comments I didn't realise there was a classic x-men omnibus solicited; I know some fans had planned out the contents of a hypothetical one (which omitted the reprinted stuff and just focused on the new material). Is there a release date set for it?

message 64: by Ian Aleksander (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments Yeah, I just found out about it. Apparently December:

message 65: by Ooh_jim (new)

Ooh_jim | 251 comments Nice one!

Apparently the reprinted stuff isnt a direct reproduction - dialogue was changed and pages were added and things. As for where it would sit on the shelf, I guess its almost like a companion book to claremonts stuff so its going after the the second Lee omni for me.

message 66: by Ian Aleksander (last edited Mar 17, 2017 10:32AM) (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments Yeah, I think it would work there, but it also only seems to go to February 1990 and the first Lee omni ends in October 1990. So you could safely read it after Vol. 1. Just depends how you organize your shelf :)

message 67: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Oh, I used to have those X-Men Classic issues and yeah, they contained new backup stories that fit in and around the original issues. Bolton I believe wrote or drew them.

Interesting, I may have to pick that up.

For New Mutants, I think they would try to encompass Sienkewicz's run which is up to #31 I believe, but otherwise I think Ian has it right.

message 68: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Ian, not sure if you want to include this but there is Marvel Masterworks Vol 7 and 8. These cover all the appearances by various X-Men between the original series and the "all new" series. Some of us are hoping they put these into a "The X-Men Omnibus V3".

V7 includes the Beast story where he becomes blue and furry.

message 69: by Ian Aleksander (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments Yeah, I'm just personally collecting and sorting the omnibus books cause it gives me a baseline to not get TOO obsessed. But I too think there's room for an X-Men Omnibus Vol. 3, as well as some collections of stuff like First Class, Hidden Years and so on. I could see a Hidden Years omnibus including stuff it mentions or "retro-crossovers" with.

X-Men Omnibus Vol. 3 could also include the covers used on the reprints which I don't think were put in Vol. 2. I did notice (and was annoyed with) a significant gap in storytelling with no furry beast origin.

New Mutants up to 31 would be awesome, if they're happy with printing that thick of a book for it. I'd be happy with it.

message 70: by Ian Aleksander (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments It's possible a Vol. 3 could actually be hidden years + other appearances if they want to make that super big too.

message 71: by Ooh_jim (last edited Mar 22, 2017 02:20PM) (new)

Ooh_jim | 251 comments Here's a question then, what would a shelf full of Claremont-Era X-Books look like? How would you collect the currently unreleased oversized stuff?

This is adapted slightly from a couple of lists I've seen elsewhere:

edit: I realized that I have left out a chunk of New Mutants issues and a few annuals, so I've rearranged things a little and complied it all into a spreadsheett

message 72: by Ian Aleksander (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments Seems about right to me, thought without going through all the dates I still think X-Men Classic could be read before Lee vol. 2. Probably right after Vol. 1.

Also in my notes I put Alpha Flight by Byrne before Wolverine Vol. 1, just cause there is some stuff in that book that takes place at later dates and we've already been introduced to Wolverine in other books.

message 73: by Ooh_jim (new)

Ooh_jim | 251 comments Thanks, I'll swap em round.

message 74: by Ian Aleksander (new)

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments actually

mine goes
New Mutants - December 1982 - March 1985 (or as far as September)
Alpha Flight - February 1978 - January 1986, May - June 1998
Wolverine Vol. 1 - October 1974 – September 1991

Also non Claremont - X-Force omnibus right before Jim Lee Vol. 2

To the other X obsessed collectors, what do you think will be the next X omni out after Classic? My guess is New Mutants and UCX Vol 4 both next year, but any less obvious ones anyone is anticipating?

Clearly I forgot I already added this book. I have it a little later as it happens after A vs X. If Legion begins in 2013 then it actually starts after All-New X-Men by Bendis (which started in 2012).

I'd pick up a New Mutants omnibus with Claremont's work for sure. :) I think Uncanny X-Men omnibus volume four would be my most wanted very closely followed by Excalibur (if that counts). I would love to see a Exiles omnibus series started. I have the Claremont run (New Exiles) custom bound but have yet to seriously think about binding the rest of the run.

message 82: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Is it weird that ANXM doesnt have an omni solicitation yet? I wonder if they are waiting for the next main X movie, not sure if they actually care about stuff like that though. How far did the initial run go before renumbering, I remember maybe like 42 with a couple oversized issues so it would be a big book especially if they tied in Battle of the Atom (and Arms of Octopus - i think it was called - which was one of the most fun little side X stories in a while I thought).

message 83: by Ooh_jim (last edited Apr 25, 2017 03:03PM) (new)

Ooh_jim | 251 comments I'd guess UXM 4 next, then maybe Excalibur or Mutant Massacre Aftermath. A New Mutants omni has been a long time coming, but I think they'll leave it for closer to the film release, currently scheduled for 2018.

Edit: just realised 2018 is next year...

Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments Another Omni that might be nice is The Defenders... there is nothing published of this guys, right?

Bruno wrote: "Another Omni that might be nice is The Defenders... there is not published of this guys, right?"

Just the Masterworks, a Premier HC, and perhaps some TPBs IIRC. Nothing in oversize format that I know of.

I suspect New Mutants would probably closer to the movie. Though, Marvel hasn't always been good about publishing support for movies from Fox as they are with movies from Marvel Studios. The Sienkiewicz New Mutants Artist Edition sold out immediately when it was released this last year so I would like to think Marvel is on notice people are interested in this content.

message 86: by Ooh_jim (new)

Ooh_jim | 251 comments A Defenders omni could have fairly high chances, especially if Thor 3 builds any Valkyrie/Strange/Hulk relationships. Problem is the contents would have nothing to do with their Netflix counterparts. A Shadowland omni would be the most likeley collection we'd see to scratch that particular itch.

message 87: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I have mixed feelings about a Defenders Omni because I own all the MMWs. I probably wouldn't upgrade. As others have said, it doesn't really fit in with the Netflix show.

My guess would be The New Mutants omni as well. It's that or UXM 4. I feel like you would get a New Mutants V2 before Excalibur which was more late 80's.

Maybe they'll actually start reprinting some of the other X events like Inferno?

Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments Wow!!! Great!!! Since you added "War of Kings Omnibus", could you also put both prologue and aftermath? Thanks!

Ian Aleksander Adams | 15 comments Thanks!

Prelude is already on there, but at first glance I wasn't sure any of the third book was really X-Men relevant. If you go to the google drive doc I linked, though, there's a sheet that has all the omnibus books in the order I'd shelve them.

Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments Can anyone help out on this: where does Weapon X: The Return Omnibus fits into the overall X-men/Wolverine reading order?

The main part of this book is from 2001/2002. It looks like I would shelve it on the list right before New X-Men by Morrison. If you have a Wolverine character shelf it would be after Hama's vol 1 and before any of the other Wolverine omnibus volumes unless I am missing something as I am thinking about this.

Wolverine vol 1 by Hama and Claremont
Wolverine Weapon X: The Return
Wolverine by Mark Millar (because of Enemy of the State storyline)
Wolverine by Jason Aaron omnibus 1 and 2 (two is listed as Wolverine in Hell).
Wolverine and the X-men
Death of Wolverine OHC
Hunt for Wolverine OHC (coming next year, large enough to be an omnibus).

Happy to help. I need to eventually try to add either a separate list of all Wolverine oversize books and/or look at including them here. I know there are some OHCs out there that could be included here.

I do hope we see an Old Man Hawkeye OHC when the 12 issue mini-series is complete. Lemire's Old Man Logan was pretty good and seems like a good candidate for an OHC or omnibus. I could see that not getting done for a while if they want to look at the rest of the ongoing series being included.

Dom McHugh | 1 comments Hi, great thread. I've been using it to order my collection of omnibuses and hc's. Where does the wedding of cyclops and phoenix go please?

I put mine between these two:
X-Men: Fatal Attractions
X-Men: Phalanx Covenant

I’m putting New Mutants vol. 1 right after UXM vol. 3, and Excalibur vol. 1 right before the Inferno: Prologue OHC.
